I am 17 and I don't usually pick up business books because I felt I had no need for them at my age. I work part time at a bookstore, I am not a manager nor supervisor, and I hold no major power / impact on the company... or so I thought. My dad wanted me to read this because of how much it helped him realize the qualities and philosophies he needs to work on to be a strong manager for his team. I was super hesitant to read this and only read it because it was short. I LOVE THIS BUSINESS BOOK! It was not a book about 'things managers need to know', it was how everyone (no matter your position) can bring joy, energy and attention to their work. Even before I read this I noticed I do a lot of these steps, but it was amazing to see it put down on paper and I learned some more techniques I can do to make my shift and the customers experience memorable. FISH is told in a story format and has you engaged from the get go and has you interested in the end result because of how vulnerable Mary Jane herself and what is at stake if she fails. I highly recommend for people of all ages, this is great for work and even how we approach our day to day lives.

It was highly recommended that I read this for work back when I was a retail general manager. I despise the entire self-help genre so it's hard for me to buy in to the messaging. The embrace of workplace culture as a path to fulfilment seems like a distraction from things that actually matter like family, friends, and community. Which we often end up sacrificing to worship 'good' leadership. It all seems very forced and disingenuous to me.

Fish! isn't a book I would have picked up myself. It was a required reading piece for my English class, and honestly I didn't care for the book. I found the book to be boring. It didn't grab my attention at all. I read it in a day just so I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore and could move on to a book that I actually wanted to read.

This book was fine. Two men writing the perspective of a single mom was a terrible mistake, and I LOLed at parts that I wasn’t supposed to laugh at (so, so much cheese), but I get it. Have more fun at work.

I need to come up with some good principles, put them in a parable and make lots of money selling my ideas someday.

Definitely cheesy in it's presentation but he message is genuine and I think it's effective. We use these very philosophies at my work and I read this book on their recommendation. I've seen these practices in use and they work exactly the way they describe. The effects are legit!

1. Choose Your Attitude
2. Play!
3. Be Present
4. Make Their Day

This book definitely convicted at some points (being present...) and affirmed at other points (choose your attitude). I love this concept and love the idea of a workplace exhibiting all of these qualities!

My manager asked her leadership team to read this. The framing story is about as dumb and unrealistic a tale as I've ever read, but the overall theme is pretty good (though it would have seemed more trenchant if I'd read it earlier in my career). At least this book is blessedly short, and I was able to expense it.
