"The Sinner" by Tess Gerritsen is a gem in the Rizzoli and Isles series, and I couldn't be happier with my reading experience. What struck me immediately was that there was more of the inclusion of Maura Isles in this installment. As a fan of the TV show, seeing Maura's presence in the book felt like a nod to the show's loyal viewers. Her character is just as complex and fascinating in print as she is on screen.

One of the standout features of this book is the way the characters are brought to life. Gerritsen has a knack for creating characters with distinctive personalities and engaging dialogue. There were several moments where I couldn't help but smile at the banter and interactions between characters. Jane Rizzoli's feisty determination and Maura Isles' intellectual curiosity are as captivating as ever, and they truly make you invest in their stories.

Now, let's talk about that ending! Without giving away any spoilers, I found the conclusion of "The Sinner" to be satisfying. It tied up the various threads of the story while leaving room for contemplation, and it left me eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Rizzoli and Isles series. The way Tess Gerritsen weaves her mysteries and wraps them up is always a testament to her storytelling prowess.

The Sinner was an entertaining read - not a great mystery but not a terrible one either. I felt like too much time was devoted to the love lives of Rizzoli & Isles and not enough to the overall story. As the story unfolded, I found myself wanting more back story on different aspects and characters that would come into play in a larger way later. While the identity of the villain was a surprise, it was mostly because he seemed insignificant (barely featured) up until the last moments of the book. There was also an attraction between a priest and Isles that was disturbing & pointless.

"I can't believe it took me as long as it did to fall for the series, but I finally did."

What a great book. This was so good. Best one so far in the series. And now that I'm finally starting to not compare the books to the TV series, I enjoy it even more. I couldn't wait with the fourth book so I threw myself over that one just seconds after I was finished. That is how good this was. That is how invested I'm starting to be in the "lives" of Isles, Rizzoli and all the other characters.

Crime and mystery is always a genre I feel at home with. It was the first type of books I loved in my early teenage years, long before I found romantic suspense and I love when authors can bring in something "new" in a genre where it is pretty much the same in different colors every time. And I love this series. It is down to earth with no excessive, over the top, murder cases. It feels realistic, believable and captivating with all that secrets unraveling. And all that personal life, Oh it is just so well balanced together and beautifully done. I can't believe it took me as long as it did to fall for the series, but I finally did.

The Sinner was good. It took twists and turns, and it caught me off guard a couple of times. Tess Gerritsen really has a talent for creating good crime novels--so well built and thought out. I really enjoy her work.

Publisher: Bantam
Purchased: Bought on Audible

What I Loved: This one is more intense than the last two (and they were pretty darn intense). I really enjoyed the case with all of its twists and turns. I never really knew what was going to happen. I really love that in a thriller. The case really blew me away with its intensity and cleverness. I really thought it would be one person responsible and I was completely wrong.

What I Liked: Really enjoyed getting to know Rizzoli and Isles a little bit more. They are both strong but flawed characters that have enough personality quirks to make them interesting.

Complaints: Each book I read/listen to makes me wish the TV Show was closer to these books and amazing characters. Really that has nothing to do with the books but I though I would throw that out there.

Why I gave it a 4: This is turning into a series that I can't wait to read the next book. Tess is very talented in both writing and storytelling. She does a great job of balancing personal lives of the characters with the solving of the case.

Who I would recommend it too: People who read thrillers. This is not a series to miss!
