This is my second Keri Lake read, which I read immediately after Master of Salt & Bones..it was a risky move to follow the masterpiece that is MOSAB, but it did it for me! I loved this just as much as the other, and I really think it's because of the author's writing. Something about her skilled storytelling and how she writes her heroines, it just makes you really root for them.

The hero *swoon*
I don't think I'm alone in saying that she just crafts the perfect bad boy hero--the I hate everyone but you hero, the I would burn the world down for you hero. I love a good romantic suspense novel, and I feel like Keri just sets the bar! I most definitely plan on reading the rest of her backlist because two bangers already--hard to imagine she'd disappoint.

All the stars! I highly recommend for the dark romance/romantic suspense lovers. Check TW and read responsibly.

Honestly I’m still kind of reeling from this story. It was dark heartbreaking and honestly a bit terrifying. It was convoluted and wild. I’m definitely going to have this book on my mind for a good long while.

This was so good!! A suspenseful and captivating story with a southern gothic setting and a slow burn, dark romance that I was all-in on. Unpredictable surprises are my favorites. Keri Lake may have me in a chokehold now.

Absolutely adored this book! From the moment I cracked it open to the final page, I was completely hooked. It was one of those reads where you just can't bear to put it down, and the thought of it ending had me in a state of denial.

I'm a sucker for romantic suspense, and this book hit all the right notes for me. Picture this: eerie ghost tales, a voodoo cult lurking in the Louisiana bayou, a dash of cartel drama, and some seriously spicy scenes – it's an absolute must-read!

The plot twists had me doing double takes like, "Wait, what just happened?" Luc..really?? Did not see that one coming!

The characters were fantastic, and the storyline was delightfully dark and twisted. Celeste and Thierry's chemistry was off the charts, adding an extra layer of excitement to the narrative. Plus, major props to the author for capturing the essence of Cajun Bayou culture – the glossary was a nice touch!

I'm already planning my inevitable reread, and I'm itching to devour more from this author. Bring on the next adventure!

I always love it when a book surprises me. That is where the magic of books come alive. This book was an example of that. Filled with suspense, interesting characters, mystery, and elements of voodoo this book took me on a journey.

I did struggle a bit with recovering some of the words because of the southern dialect but it wasn't enough to stop me from devouring this story. The author did a great job at depicting a scene. I could picture almost everything as if it is was right before me. The reason this didn't rank higher was because of how fast the ending came to be. Up to that point, it was very detailed and mysterious filled with suspense and tension. I wanted it slower and not as rushed.

That being said, this was a great palette changer and very different than other books that are out there. It was refreshing to see and experience. I highly recommend this book.
