I didnโ€™t know if Wildfire could live up to Icebreaker, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is the perfect example of miscommunication done well, and even though itโ€™s a college setting, I feel like Hannahโ€™s characters are mature. This one had the perfect mix of fun, emotional, and adorable moments! Plus, who doesnโ€™t love a summer camp setting and puppies?! Reading Wildfire was the perfect way to wind down my summer TBR list!

Iโ€™ve said it once, and Iโ€™ll say it again โ€” Iโ€™ll read anything Hannah Grace writes!

I liked this book a lot more than the previous book, Icebreaker. I found the characters more relatable and the author did a great job of weaving in both main charactersโ€™ backstories. Lots of childhood trauma that was kind of miraculously solved at about 80-85% of the book, which was feel good and happy, but felt unbearably unrealistic at times. The tension and spice was yummy and not over the top. Definitely a book with spice and not a spicy book. Looking forward to book 3 coming out next month!

If you're on the fence about reading this book after you read Icebreaker and you're thinking "am I really up for this again?", give it a try.

I liked the characters in this book more than I did in Icebreaker and setting the book at a summer camp with nothing really to do with Maple Hills or the hockey team was a nice change of pace. It was nice to be able to build on the foundation that Hannah Grace set up in the first book without having to deal with Anastasia and Nate's nonsense.

Like I said after reading the first book of the series--if you manage your expectations and don't go into it thinking that it's going to change your world view, you'll probably have a happier outcome. This isn't a book that will change your world view, it's what you'd expect -- a book about a group of college students with some hockey, romance novel tropes, and spicy bits sprinkled in.

In this book you'll find the following tropes:

  • Found Family
  • One Night Stand
  • Miscommunication
  • Forced Proximity/Stuck Together
  • Secret Relationship/Forbidden Romance
  • Daddy Issues
    - From both main characters
  • Opposites Attract
  • Work Colleagues

Honorable Mention Tropes (if that could be considered a thing?)

  • Sports Romance - Hockey. Is the male lead a hockey player? Yes. Does it make a big impact on the story, as it does with Icebreaker? No.
  • Social Inferiors/Different Worlds or
    Rich v. Poor
    - kinda/sorta/not really.
Aurora's dad owns a Formula 1 team, and Russ has a deadbeat dad with a gambling problem that asks to borrow money sometimes. Both have daddy issues and there is a thread of "we come from two different worlds" thing, but it's not a huge part of the story unless I am totally forgetting.
