This is a collection of comic strips about a 4th grader named Phoebe who becomes best friends with a magical unicorn named Marigold Heavenly Nostrils. The art is cute and the girls get up to the things you'd expect - eating candy, having sleepovers, imagining. It's cute and fun light reading for kids who might be reluctant readers. I'd love a graphic novel on his subject. My only complaint is that the stories are very shallow because they are in strip format.

This book is mildly amusing, but definitely not as entertaining as I was expecting. I thought it would have more of a story line, but it really doesn't. It's mostly just a girl doing random stuff with a unicorn. About half way through the book, I found myself struggling to keep reading it and I just wanted it to be over. I probably won't be reading the rest of the book in this series.

I love the sassiness of Marigold and the realistic nature of Phoebe. Also some grand life lessons are thrown in.

I've been reading this series out of order, since each chapter holds it's own, but this one is certainly one of the funniest. I am planning on buying a copy in Polish just for kicks and giggles!

I picked this up because: it was compared to Calvin and Hobbes. The unicorn's name is Marigold Heavenly Nostrils.

I loved it because: it is not Calvin and Hobbes. I can see why all the comparisons, and there are definitely similarities, but this is so NOT Calvin and Hobbes "for girls." Calvin and Hobbes was Calvin and Hobbes for girls. This is different and great, and had a really nice vibe going for it. Phoebe is spunky and fun and lonely, and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils is a unicorn that occupies much more of the real world than reality should allow. The two characters play off each other so nicely, and together they create a fun place where I want to spend more time.

This was a cute and funny graphic novel of a girl and her unicorn best friend.

Phoebe and the unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, had many adventures together, most of which read as short jokes, and gave a glimpse of what life would look like for young girls if they also had a unicorn friend.

The back of the book was cute as well, complete with instructions on how to draw Phoebe and Marigold, how to make puppets of them, and how to make an animated flip book.

I found it interesting how many of the scenes involved Phoebe’s (rather archaic looking) smartphone and her (very generic) laptop. When she wasn’t tweeting about a leaf, (#thelastleaf) she was texting her unicorn (who was able to magically communicate through text) or simply looking at her phone for no visible reason.

This was a clean read full of humor, adventure, and magic. Great for readers of any age looking for a light, humorous read.

Content:
There were unicorns and dragons in the book, as well as magical spells which were usually jokes in disguise. Such as the summoning spell ”Get out here, stupid”.
There was some bathroom humor.
Phoebe and Marigold got dressed up and went trick or treating for Halloween
Phoebe was shown to be on her phone and laptop for a good portion on the scenes.
