2022 reread update:
I enjoyed it a bit more. I was able to look past the change of artist and the unfinished look of the last chapter and focus of the story, which moved forward in this volume. I would love a novel based on Taldain in the future, such an interesting world and magic system, with so much left unexplored!
First read:
I like the story, I think I would have loved the book if Sanderson had published it as a regular novel, instead of being published separately as graphic novels. But sadly that is the case, so I'm not enjoying these White Sand volumes very much.
To start with, it's a bit confusing, so much world building and magic to explain with so little text, most of it dialogues. And I've never been a fan of the artwork, the details most of all. But what they did with this last volume, using a different artist for the last chapter, was... not cool.
Of course I'll read the last installment, because it's an important part of the Cosmere, but I can't imagine how they will tie every loose end in just one more volume. Only time will tell.

Continuing the story of vol. 1 but with a tighter focus on Kenton and his fight to find allies amidst the web of allegiances around him, vol. 2 continues to display Sanderson's skill as a storyteller and worldbuilder. With "White Sand" this pairs well with the dramatic adaptation and visuals of the rest of the creative team--even with the rather unexpected change of artist for the final chapter of this volume.
It's a graphic novel clearly grounded in epic Sanderson's epic fantasy style, but the comic form works well to showcase Kenton's adventures. It's a different experience to take in the story in this manner, but I'm enjoying it and I look forward to seeing where it all leads.

I really wanted to like this, but somehow, I didn't. Then, the artwork changed for the last chapter and suddenly I liked it so much more.
I guess this means what I really didn't like was the style of the first five chapters (and volume one), and the confusion it brought me. I seriously ended up just reading the speech bubbles and stopped watching the drawings alltogether because I couldn't make sense of it..
I somehow hope volume 3 will have less of the overcrowded confusion and more of the chapter 6 style.
Would have been 2 stars if not for that epic save :)
