The overall story isn't bad, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired. There's needless repetition of concepts, and it states the obvious entirely too often. The thing that bugged me the most, though, was the frequently shifting perspectives with no warning. It was so jarring to hop from the mind of one character to 2 or more others then back to the original in just a few pages. Apparently the next book has instalove, so I'm giving up on this series.

I’m not sure what I’d expected with this. Something else. Something less brutal and hateful. I’m not sure why and how I thought that but I felt like this was little payoff for the amount of work I put forth reading it.
If I’d ever been unsure if there was a book in this genre that I couldn’t or wouldn’t want to read; I now have the answer. I’m glad for that even if I didn’t personally enjoy this story.
