It wasn't bad. A 3.5 for me. A good gothic romance, though I wish Sophie would have been a BIT more upset when Joseph revealed why he really married her.
Spoiler I mean, come on, girl. The man married you to sacrifice you to a demon. A LITTLE anger is allowed and understandable before you immediately start telling him you love him.
Nothing too surprising or out of the ordinary or new, but that isn't always a bad thing. A little annoyed at the epilogue and the cliffhanger, but I guess I did know going in that it was a sequel.

This was a fun gothic throwback novel with a super quick pace and mostly likable characters. My only complaint was the slightly weak ending.

Loved this. It's breezy and very light with the romance and sexual tension, but much heavier on both than Coates usually goes. Was not sure how a period piece by her would read, but she still retained her ability to set a chilling mood. And I'm a sucker for stories where the house itself is almost a character.

I'm a huge sucker for a Darcy Coates book. The fast pace and the way her books are written make for quick reads, and sometimes, that's exactly what I need.

I really enjoyed this one. The story of this cursed family that has been dying these brutal deaths for generations is so well done. The Gothic vibes paired with the cold harsh aunt, and the obviously haunted niece created just a great atmosphere for the plot, and it created the perfect amount of suspense.

I appreciated the romance in this book. It wasn't thrown in your face. It didn't seem forced. They just fell for each other for such sweet reasons in a terrifying time.

And then end! The end. I'm so excited for book 2.

The books was categorized has a romance/horror but there wasn't much romance and what little there was felt rushed and out of place/not good. The horror in this book was really good though!

I must admit, when I read that this was categorized as a gothic romance, I really had some doubts as to whether I wanted to start reading this. But... it's Darcy Coates, how can I be disappointed?!?
Well, I wasn't! This was incredible! I really enjoyed the characters, I enjoyed the plot, I even enjoyed the weird, if not sometimes truly odd, romantic segments. This was just a very enjoyable and creepy story! Not the most innovative or original, but very, very well done in terms of execution!
Darcy Coates is a powerhouse in the horror genre, and I dare to say, I am still not let down!
Great great job Darcy!!!!
