I had a difficult time understanding the setup of this novel - as it wasn't very straightforward. After the second chapter, I caught on and enjoyed the different perspectives.
Three sisters. One crown. A long tradition of murder and ascension.
It was a quick read with an obvious twist. The ending was AMAZING!

Triplet heirs to the Royal crown, each having an equal right to it. So who gets the crown? Why, the only one to survive of course. Each sister born supposedly with a special ability, but one more powerful than the others.

I got this audio book version expressly for the author, and it did not disappoint!

I love the semi dystopian to-the-death rivalry. The political manipulation was fantastic because at the end I wasn't sure who was actually playing who. Everyone seemed to have a sinister side to them whether it was being out for blood or being unfaithful. There were a couple of twists at the end, only one of which I predicted. Book two will be very interesting to see which characters get cut and who survives.

I was unfamiliar with this series and author, and I am really happy to have stumbled upon this!

ruthless characters? Check. Big cast? Check. Amazing premise and concept? Check.

I adore this book. It really get you thinking and your feelings are continuously changing, as well as the characters. Right now, I am rooting for Mirabella but we’ll see.

I find that each sister has their own type of distinct personality and I find it amazing.

The writing style is also amazing. A novel doesn’t need much to make it good for me, I only need a good concept and amazing writing style.

Although I must say, it’s very slow. Nothing happen. And the actually plot or event of this whole story didn’t happen until the very end of the book. Which I fine very slow. I hope the pacing could be a little faster.

To conclude, I like this novel, if the pacing was improved then I’ll adore it.

April 2020 re-read review:
My reading this time was so different from my first! I really loved the build up of the plot and story, the way each queen’s character unfolded, the beautifully witchy, womanly elements, and how raw Blake’s writing is. What was missing for me was detail. I want more specifics regarding the setting, style, and landscape of the book; more world building. The politics of the world are good but I want the world itself to be more tangible. Heading into a re-read of book 2!

3.5. While the concept was excellent, the plot could have been executed better. It was kind of underwhelming when all was said and done but I was still pretty entertained by the trashy love situations and the totally unique spin on royalty, fantasy and competition. The plot twist at the end... totally didn't see that coming so an extra .5 stars for that;).

I couldn't get over the pacing issue and timeline confusion, especially when I didn't care about any of the characters enough to keep trying.
