This marks the end of Helen trilogy. It seemed to me the authors set out to write three books, but the story was more or less done by the second book. The third book is split in two parts : the first part is just 60 odd pages, which felt like an epilogue to the previous entry. The rest is just weird. And I did Nazi that end coming! There were two unnecessary plot lines, completely disconnected from the main story and yet got significant page count. Also this book was really action heavy, which is usually uncharacteristic of Pendergast novels.

Good. I usually enjoy the stories where Nazis get their comeuppance, but this one kind of dragged.

Not one of the better Pendergast books, but at least it wraps up a bunch of loose ends. I can't decide if it would be best to leave this as the last of the series, or if the authors should begin with a new Pendergast adventure, maybe one that's more like the earlier stories. In any case, I do love the character and the quirky/horrific storylines so this was a great read to start off a vacation.

I’m happy to have wrapped up the so-called “Helen Trilogy” part of the larger Pendergast series. It was another pretty good ride through the strange combination of action thriller/detective/weird science novels that this series has become. The last book, [b:Cold Vengeance|9489502|Cold Vengeance (Pendergast, #11)|Douglas Preston|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1344264848s/9489502.jpg|14374946], ended in a major cliffhanger but that was quickly dealt with right out of the gate in this book. The mysteries surrounding the Helen plot line are all revealed but new twists and surprises are introduced which will lead me nicely to the next book to come.

Once again, the Constance plot line (and her strange history) is revealed even more. It was also nice to see the side plot involving one of my favorite characters, Corrie Swanson, having to step out on her own as a sleuth of sorts due to Pendergast’s absence. Several more characters have been evolving over the past couple of books now so the authors have any number of plots and subplots to draw on in future volumes. As for Agent Pendergast himself, the convoluted situation he finds himself in combined with the emotional turmoil he has experienced over these three books leads him almost all the way to Crazy Land this time so I hope the next book finds him in a more traditional and peaceful place.

Nazies. Oh, well, being a German myself, I can honestly say, they are still alive and well. But the storyline feels like a deja vu, the idea was put through the grinder way to often. Having read all the more or less fantastic books by both authors, their collaborations in the Pendergast-Series, their standalone books and the books written by each author alone, I guess they have reached the end here, this is not as much a page-turner, as the other ones (excepting the flawed lesser ones).
Now I have finished it, I must say, no more Nazis als villains! For that and because I think the story is not as good as some books about Pendergast before, 1 star less giving 4 instead of 5. Maybe it is me, being tired of Nazis and Pendergast.

Although some of the plot points were so outrageous they almost lost me, the book was redeemed by the final fight scene in the *spoiler* underground tunnels. They can write a mean tunnel scene.
