*I received a free copy of Lassiter. This has in no way influenced my voluntary review which is honest and unbiased.*

Oh my word! Lassiter's story has been brewing for a while, and it more than lived up to my expectations. He and Ravhyn had a complicated story, and it continued to be complicated throughout.

This story was very intense, and it's been a while since I cried so hard while reading a story...

I absolutely hate the Lessening Society, the Omega, the son of the Omega, the Omega 2 - Electric Boogaloo, and Davina. I think these storylines are horrendous and have felt this way from day one. So imagine my surprise when I discovered half of this much anticipated book is devoted to them. Can we just move on from this clusterfudge of a storyline? How many years have we been putting up with the same old Omega crap? I was so bored, this book nearly became a DNF.

On another note, I must say, after the shenanigans pulled at the end of the book, I might never pick up a J.R. Ward novel again. What a colossal waste of time that “big event” was.

Still in shock!

I was excitedly waiting for this story. I had a hard time getting into it at first because it was hard to follow but then things got on track.

So many crazy things were going on that I was in constant shock. I kept wondering if things could get worse.

Can I just say that I loathe Devina. She's just gross and pathetic. I don't care what kind of fascination Ward has with the demon, I cannot stand the character and wish she hadn't gravitated her over from the Fallen Angels series.

I love Lassiter, though. I like Rhavyn but wish she had a more vivid personality to match Lassiter's.

The entire book was a shocker.

The fallen angel Lassiter is in love with Rahvyn, but he sacrifices himself to the demon Devina to save a member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Devina uses a spell from this powerful Book to manifest a perfect partner to suit her (the Omega's son, Lash). However, in order for the spell to work, Lassiter has to give up his loved one. Rahvyn falls for Lassiter, but her trust in him is destroyed when she believes that he is only with her to protect the Black Dagger Brotherhood from Devina.

My expectations for this book were not that high, but I was still disappointed. The instant-love between Lassiter and Rahvyn felt like it came out of nowhere. I did not like the overly flowerly and ancient way that Rahvyn talked.; it felt distracting and forced. Also, Rahyn's powers felt like a lazy plot device to "kill" Wrath. Just kidding--he's not dead, he was just hiding in time. The epilogue did a lot of work by bringing Wrath back. The sentient Book reminded me of the Fever series by [a:Karen Marie Moning|48206|Karen Marie Moning|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1497612477p2/48206.jpg]. Although I liked the concept of the powerful book in Lassiter, Ward basically abandons this plot point and the whole story lacks closure. It looks like the next book in the series is going to take place 33 years in the future with Nalla (Zsadist and Bella's daughter) and some unnamed person. I think it'll be interesting to see the characters after they have grown older, but I am not looking forward to that much angst between Zsadist, Bella, and Nalla.

Lassiter is an eye opening, fast-paced unpredictable possible beginning to our stories. Our favorite fallen angel is fighting the demon Devina and the Omega’s son Lash from becoming one force, knowing the power they would have organized together would mean the termination of the Vampire race.  Attempting this might mean the end of his soul, and his heart, but brotherhood is everything and he must try.

Lassiter. Everyone’s favorite snarky angel stands tall and proud in this story. How can you not like an Angel that loves The Golden Girls? Even I didn’t see the ending. Although I read this story with an open heart because I’ve always loved these vampires, this one broke me in half. Lassiter was due his love story, and Rahvyn was ready to claim her mate. J.R. Ward is an auto-buy author for me, and every time I pick up one of the stories I’m transported right back to the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. If vampire romance is on your radar, or even long series with storylines and characters that figure in each book, this book is a must.
