I ended up enjoying this much more than I thought I would at the beginning. Alex starts off seeming just super impulsive, and although it is more a part of her character and personality, she somewhat levels out where at least her impulses start to make sense. Not sure how I feel about this world though. The prejudices and the way it sounds like pure bloods treat women is...a lot.

I have read over 15 books by Armentrout this year. This one surprised me.

Why? Because I didn't expect it to be so YA! It's listed as YA and it's well written as a YA book. I'm just so used to her adult work that this one threw me off. It felt whiny and immature compared to her other work. Honestly, I find the heroine obnoxious as hell and I don't like that she didn't have much of a character arc, HOWEVER I am 100% invested in the plot and I -need- to know what happens next. I'm super curious what's going to happen regarding Aiden and Seth too. There are so many ways I can imagine this going and I'm dying to know what Armentrout's incredible imagination came up with.

This is a binge-able YA romantasy series involving descendants of the Greek gods in a low fantasy world. They fight daimons (demons) and there is some political turmoil between the pures and half-bloods. I ate this up! It was such a fun and easy read. I wish there was more depth to the political/social dynamics between pures and half-bloods because there are definitely some parallels that can be drawn between this book and racial aggressions/segregation/discrimination in the US, though the author did not draw such strong parallels. The characters are distinct, and while there was character development in this book, it left a lot of room for these characters to continue to grow and change throughout the course of this series. I enjoyed delving into this world and am excited to continue!

was a lovely read! .... for the first 100 pages. after that, it becomes super predictable and trope-filled, everything that made it unique and interesting falling flat on its face. hopefully the other books in the series are better?

For a first book it was a good story with enough plot and character development to get you interested in the next book. I liked the romance, heartfelt issues and overcoming tragedy, and Greek mythology aspects in the book

The MC in this series is unhinged. She will take you on a ride. She is lovable and frustrating. Even her positive personality traits, she takes to such extremes that they impact her negatively. That said, she lives in an interesting world of gods, political intrigue, and magical powers. There are mysteries to uncover and questionable love interests.

Awesome much?!

Re read 2023 3***

So I still enjoyed this. I remember absolutely loving this the first time I read this but I was also really young then. I've read a lot of fantasy since then and I'm no longer the target age range.
It was very YA, there's actually a lot going on right away. Typical teenage characters, everyone is sex obsessed. I'm looking forward to reading the next book and seeing if I still enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this I just don't love it like I did then. Back then this was AH-MAZING and I don't think it's amazing anymore but still pretty good.
