At times this is an intimate and honest insight into Karamo’s life with some important messages and sentiment. Some parts are less strong and the whole thing feels a bit disorganised and too simply written but it was overall fine.

Eloquent discussion of Karamo's life, colorism, rastafrain religion and Christianity in a household that's complex and diverse. I loved hearing karamo's story directly from him in the audiobook.

I also loved how Eloquent and easy it was to follow along with Karamoa's voice as he described his story. I also loved learning more about Karamo.

Difficult to rate this one so leaving it in the middle.

Thing is, I LOVE Karamo on QE. He is always making me cry. And I didn't know anything about him at all, never watch those reality shows on MTV, didn't know who he was before QE. So it was super interesting to me to find out more about his life.

But... I don't know what it is exactly that made me not love this book. Sometimes it came across a bit like: hi look at how amazing I am
Eventhough I don't think he means to do that. I think it is more about overcoming obstacles/struggles/addiction and learning from them, using it for the good.

But like I said, there were moments where it came across like a show-off "look at me, I'm amazing, I did all of this and that and I am the best". So for that reason I couldn't fully love it. If that makes any sense

Perhaps I was a bit biased towards loving this book, and I may not have loved it quite so much if I didn’t already respect the author so much, but I loved it none the less. Having a glimpse into the life and struggles of a figure that I admire was wonderful, and the stories he told kept me hooked.

If I took one thing away from the book, it was the idea that sometimes, people don’t have the language to communicate what they’re feeling. This concept was emphasized many times, and I’ve found it immensely applicable to my own life. Well done to Karamo, the educated rebel.

I hated this book. Karamo comes off as preachy, while simultaneously bragging about how sad and difficult his life was. I was hoping for a compelling story or insight into self love, but I didn’t find it. It doesn’t feel inspiring or uplifting, which was a huge reason I wanted to listen to it. The audio and delivery is so bad I felt like I was being yelled at the whole time and had to turn my volume way down.

I love Karamo. He is such a beautiful person inside and out. I think everyone can learn a little bit about themselves and others by watching how he interacts with the heros on Queer Eye.

I loved reading about Karamo and the many highs and lows in his life!
