Gwen, Gideon, Lesley and company are back for more time-traveling adventures in the second book. Sapphire Blue was a great sequel to Ruby Red, which I absolutely loved. My love of Gwen continues in this installment. She's just so darn likeable. Even when she takes a few paragraphs to wallow in self-pity, it's somehow endearing, rather than annoying, like so many YA heroines. Maybe because it doesn't last long and because I know I would be doing the same thing!
A new character enters the story in Sapphire Blue: Xemerius the gargoyle demon. I loved Xemerius! He's really funny and I love his running commentary on everything. Another new character that we meet towards the end is Raphael, Gideon's little brother. While Raphael has inherited his big brother's good looks, he lacks Gideon's sense of duty and has little regards for rules. A very dangerous combination indeed and I'm certain we'll see more of Raphael in Emerald Green.
Gideon was a bit of a brat in this one. One minute he's hot, the next he's cold. There were definitely times that I wanted to give him a good shake! Despite how awkward this makes Gwen feel, I think she takes everything in stride, despite the wallowing in self-pity I mentioned above. And there's a bit of a revelation about Gideon's behaviour at the end, only to be followed by ANOTHER revelation in the prologue. Oh my! I really can't wait for Emerald Green to come out so I can figure out exactly what's what.
And, there's some time travel fun, of course. Through Gwen's eyes, we learn that the eighteenth century perhaps wasn't as prim and proper as we all thought, at least in some social circles. And my opinion of Court Saint Germane has been cemented: all-around pompous ass!
Overall, Sapphire Blue was a lot of fun. I found that it lacked a little bit of the magic of Ruby Red, although I really can't put my finger on why. It's still a great read and I'm definitely looking forward to Emerald Green!

Ok so first off, I havr the english translation of this book but I'm on my iPod so it won't let me switch versions... so I'm on this one for now.
I'm actually rating this 3.5 stars for several reasons that are very near and dear to my heart.
First of all I don't like at all how the books are being split from one another. It centers more around Gideon and Gwen's relatipnship. Now for the most part, this works but for some reason not in this series. It almost freels like the author didn't know how this whole emotional situation would pan out so she procrastinated and said, "I'll put it in the next book!". The plot of the book itself was pretty good, just not the way it cut off at the end.
Second, the emotional side of this book was strangely lacking. I didn't feel anything except maybe astonishment throught the entire book. If you've read my other reviews, you'll know that I'm a very emotional reader and I like to FEEL emotions as I'm reading. This book just didn't do that for me.
I'll still be reading the rest of the series as it is an interesting story.

Da tempo stavo cercando una storia fantasy che si distringesse dalla solita massa di fate, streghe e mughetti e questo era tutto quello che stavo cercando.
Mi piace la trama, la sua struttura, la sua capacità di tenerti incollato, di confonderti, di darti una soluzione che dai per scontata che si rivelerà errata.

Seppur storia di mezzo, la trama rimane avvincente e ricca.
L’intricata linea temporale e l’intrecciata struttura della storia, lo rendono davvero scorrevole.
Mi piace la trama, la sua struttura, la sua capacità di tenerti incollato, di confonderti, di darti una soluzione che dai per scontata che si rivelerà errata.

This one was just as fun as book one! I’m kinda eating up the old school YA style of this series. I absolutely loved the hit Broadway musical Cats making an appearance in the 18th century.

Ich weiß eigentlich gar nicht, was ich zu diesem Buch sagen könnte, außer Wow, wow, wow! Es ist ganz fantastisch und wenn ich nicht schon seit "Rubinrot" vollkommen in den Bann gezogen gewesen wäre von der Edelstein-Trilogie, so wäre ich es doch garantiert nun nach "Saphirblau". Das Buch habe ich innerhalb von nur 1 1/2 Tagen regelrecht verschlungen. So eine richtig schöne lange Lesesession voller Spannung habe ich einfach mal wieder gebraucht und dafür war "Saphirblau" genau richtig. Man könnte nur sagen, dass ich jetzt vielleicht noch viel mehr in den Bann dieser Geschichte gezogen worden bin. "Saphirblau" hat einen, genau wie sein Vorgänger, von der ersten Seite an mitgerissen, zum lachen und nachdenken gebracht und man war sofort wieder in den Gedanken und der Gefühlswelt der Gwendolyn Shepherd eingetaucht. Und egal, wie oft sie sich um Kopf und Kragen reden mag, mit jeder ihrer kleinen "Missgeschicke" schließt man sie nur noch mehr ins Herz. Ich mag Gwendolyn unglaublich gern und würde mir eine so tolle beste Freundin, wie Leslie es ist, auch wünschen. Oder so einen Wasserspeierdämon wie Xenerus, welcher mein heimlicher Liebling in "Saphirblau" gewesen ist. Und auch Gideon ist wieder anbetungswürdig, auch wenn ich ihn manchmal gern geschüttelt hätte, wenn er wieder mit Charlotte herum hing und man einfach nicht wusste, was genau der Junge denn nun eigentlich treibt. Charlotte mag ich genau so wenig wie noch im Buch davor; auch wenn ich verstehen kann, dass sie frustriert ist, so finde ich es unfair, dass sie Gwendolyn die Schuld an etwas gibt, wofür sie überhaupt nichts kann. Und dann wird noch von Gwendolyn erwartet, all die Dinge in nur ein paar Tagen zu erlernen, die Charlotte in einem Zeitraum von vielen Jahren hinweg lernte. Doch auch die Liebesgeschichte um Gwendolyn und Gideon wurdé´immer schöner und spannender. Ich liebe die beiden zusammen und habe am Ende mit Gwen zusammen gelitten... Wieso musste Gideon dafür sorgen, dass Gwendolyn sich in ihn verliebt? Dass er sie nun jedoch wirklich liebt, liegt auf der Hand. Ich war ziemlich enttäuscht, dass das Buch schon zu ende war, bevor Gideon noch einmal mit ihr reden konnte. Doch das ist nur eine von so vielen Fragen, welche in "Smaragdgrün" sicherlich beantwortet werden: was hat es mit den anderen Prophezeiungen, welche der Graf von Saint Germain vor den anderen Wächtern verborgen hielt, auf sich und welche Rolle spielt Gwendolyn darin? Dass Lucy und Paul guten Grund haben, gegen den Grafen zu arbeiten, wird immer klarer, genau so, dass sie nicht die Bösen sind in dieser Sache. Was ist an dem Versteck, welches Lucas Montrose für Gwendolyn hinterlassen hat? Es gibt noch viele Unklarheiten und Geheimnisse, an denen erst oberflächlich gekratzt worden ist, die noch aufgedeckt werden müssen... Ich bin schon sehr, sehr gespannt auf "Smaragdgrün" und hoffe, das Buch so bald wie möglich lesen zu können. Einzig und allein schade finde ich es, dass ich "Saphirblau" viel zu schnell durch hatte. Doch das Lesevergnügen war einfach ein viel zu großer Genuss. Man merkt überhaupt nicht, wie man ruckzuck wieder über hundert Seiten gelesen hat. Kerstin Giers Schreibstil ist toll und zieht einen regelrecht in den Bann. Ich bin auf jeden Fall ein großer Fan der Edelstein-Trilogie, so viel steht fest.

A la segunda entrega de Rubí le doy un 3'5 sobre 5, a pesar de que la he devorado.
Creo que lo más me ha gustado ha sido el desarollo de la historia de Gwendoline y Gideon. El misterio ha estado bien y quedan bastante incógnitas que serán resueltas en el último libro (o eso espero).
Ahora mismo empiezo con el tercero, y espero que sea un poco mejor que este libro, ya que el primer libro estuvo muy bien.
