First thought when finished: Not my favorite in the series but still a good read!

What I Thought of the Case: The Unholy was set in Hollywood and managed to bring in the old mixed with the new. This story had a very Noir type of feel that kept me reading from beginning to the end. As with each case before the murderer is very real but there are small paranormal elements that play into solving the case. The Unholy was not hard to figure out (as to who was involved) but it did have a few twists at the end that kept you wondering if you guessed right. That is such a fun element to mystery reading for me.

What I Thought of the Characters: I really love this new team! The Unholy is their 2nd case and they are truly beginning to come together. Each person brings their own strengths and weaknesses to the table. Sean is at the center of the story and he makes me swoon. He is strong, reliable, loyal, and just a tad bit HOT! His backstory is so sweet that I dare you not to fall in love. His love interest, Madison, is a good match for him and her being friends with the ghost of "Bogey" was great! The characters are what I adore about this series overall!

What I Thought of the Audio: Luke Daniels narrated this so you know I loved it! The running time was about 8 hours and perfect for a work day. The pacing and articulation were great! I pretty much recommend listening to any book that Luke narrates.

Final Thought: I love this series overall and would recommend it to Romantic Suspense/Mystery lovers that don't mind a slight paranormal tinge to their books!

The ending was good, however the beginning was very slow and not as interesting as her other books.

Hmmm another okay Krewe book. I don’t think I’m liking the new team very much, all the characters feel so flat to me. I liked the mystery and storyline of this novel: the old school Hollywood noir vibes were fun, it was interesting seeing the characters so openly utilizing their medium abilities, and I was genuinely left guessing right up till the end. It’s just that the characters were bleh. I didn’t feel the romance, I was connected with anyone, it was just an okay read for me. I liked it, but I wouldn’t revisit this one either.

Brain candy at its finest. A little romance, a little mystery, a little cop work...perfect blend of brain candy. ;)

When I first picked up this book I wasn't sure if I'd placed it on the right shelf (urban fantasy) here on Goodreads--it took a while for the fantasy element to show up. And for quite some time you're not sure if the killer is a fantastical element or if it really is a locked-room mystery with a very real murderer. (Side rant: anyone else out there hate it when a locked-room mystery--or deserted island, natch--turns out to be just a dream? Tell me how they got out of the room, darn it) This is my first book by this author, but it sounds like she's known for writing that way, and I enjoyed it. The premise is fun--a murder at a special effects company with an owner who loves film noir--and the characters are people I think I'd get along with. The story reads very fast, and it's tremendously fun to have the characters interact with Humphrey Bogart as a ghost. Even though this is part of a series, the book stands fine on its own, which is a relief. There are plenty of hints about things that have happened before, but they didn't intrude on the narrative nor did they loom so large it seemed like something vital was missing. The characters could use a little more development (especially in the supernatural department) and I was sort of disappointed in the reveal of the whodunit, but the rest of the story is entertaining and well constructed. I'm curious now about the other stories in this series, so I'll check this author out if I come across other works.

I received this as a digital ARC via Netgalley and the publisher.
