4.5 stars. This was a good book and I loved reading it! My only problem with this was that it was very hard to get into in the beginning.

Took me a literal year to read - I have never been so bored.

While not as polished or satisfying as "Pride and Prejudice" or "Emma", a very entertaining read overall. It has its slow points, and the ending comes a bit out of nowhere with little justification, but the characters are mostly likeable and, as always with Austen, emotional moments feel earned and plots well developed.

I enjoyed Sense & Sensibility by the end, which is to say there was a long time in the middle where I was… Saying bored sounds too harsh maybe, but kinda bored. There was so much time between anything of consequence happening, but that time was laboured on. I feel like the whole book could have been 100 pages shorter. Marianne pissed me off right until the very end, and then Elinor started to irritate me when she showed any good feeling towards Willoughby whatsoever. Maybe I'm a horrible person but I felt literally 0 sympathy for the man and I wish Brandon had killed him in their duel. While there was some of Austen's usual wit, I didn't find it half so funny as Emma, or as romantic as Persuasion and Pride & Prejudice which just served for it to feel even longer. Plus I'm pissed that we didn't get to see Edward's proposal on screen after all that! I know she usually has them off screen but I was still disappointed. I know it was making a larger point about mothers and their impressions on their children but yeah no, not a fave
