The story of Lennon and Macon is addicting! It starts out as a high school bully romance where Macon has it out for Lennon from the very first moment she sits in front of him at 9 years old.
Lennon becomes beside friends with Macon’s sister, Claire, which only fuels their fire for each other. The slow burn this book takes of senior year and the emotion toll this book played on my heart has me diving into book two to find out the rest of their story.
- “Isn’t that how all the best love stories play out? It’s not love if it doesn’t hurt first.”

This was my first Brit Benson book. Why I sat on her is beyond me. Let me tell you this book had a sick hold on me. I could not put it down. Macon and Lennon’s story was captivating. I loved the dual POV. It had twists and turns I never saw coming. The love and hate between them was addicting. The writing was incredible. I cannot say enough great things for Brit.
Lennon is a girl who lost her mom and has her dad raising her. He is unable to always be around due to his job so she is often left alone. She is incredibly studious and artistic. Although, she hides the art from her dad. She has a best friend, Claire, who always wants Lennon to come over and be her DD for parties.
Macon, is a trouble kid being raised by his mom and hated by his sister Claire, also Lennons best friend. Macon and Lennon have been in each other’s lives a while. Macon was held back, a troubled kid, getting into trouble everywhere he turns. He doesn’t hang out with the best kids and regularly does drugs and gets drunk.
These two are so tumultuous but in the best way. What Lennon goes through breaks your heart. And the layers you peel back from Macon in this story shatter you but also tick you off. Lennon learns what a real best friend is, what it feels like to have your heart broken, and to be down right just angry at the entire world. You can’t help but get in your feelings for this story. It was absolutely incredible.

Leuk boek, opzich niet mega bijzonder. Claire irriteerde me wel mega erg en hoe spreek je Macon uit? Bacon maar dan met een M?
Ben wel benieuwd naar deel 2!

I'm DNFing at 80%. It's like a combination of the good scenes taken from other books. And that's fine, but execution's not great.
