The neverending, unchanging sex scenes were unnecessary. The writing wasn't very creative and where I felt compelled to continue to read hoping for a gripping twist I was left disappointed as it never hit as much as it alluded it may. The continuous sex scenes eventually became so repetitive it got boring because the tension was eventually lost because it became expected of every chapter.

cannot believe readers are giving this 5 stars. what is this book and writing style?! what kind of characters are these? feels like colleen wrote this book in hopes of it becoming a crappy lifetime movie.

I have a difficult time when it comes to Colleen Hoover, very love-hate.
I did enjoy this book though, far more then It Ends With Us, mostly cause I wasn’t blindsided this time by the dark themes in the book (which also do not seem to have any trigger warnings mentioned in the beginning- seems to be recurring problem with her books).
That being said, if you like dark, suspenseful reads with a bit of romance, this is a great book for you. One of the better books of hers that I’ve read for sure.

Dark in a shock value sort of way, not in a mysterious way. Started out with a really intriguing premise and quickly devolved into detailed descriptions of
Spoilergraphic bad sex, child abuse, child murder
and a predictable and boring "twist" at the end that basically felt like the author assumed the reader was a complete idiot and needed everything explained in mundane detail. You know what they say about jokes? Same goes for suspenseful plot twists. If you have to explain it, it's probably not very good.
