It’s only the first book, but this really does feel like it’s full of life. The details of the characters and of the neighbourhood; you really get to know them and become invested in their stories. The way the author expresses the complexity of friendships especially between young women I have never read so accurately before. I see no reason not to give this 5. The ending in particular was a gorgeous cliffhanger. One that made me scared for our girls’ futures.

Objectively very good. An incredibly detailed, intimate, & nuanced exploration of a friendship, of character dynamics. Just not particularly exciting. Also there are so many characters and it was hard to tell some of them apart from one another. Loved the protagonist, though, and would like to continue the series so I can be in her head through the other stages of her life.

so conflicted on this book the writing was stunning but it took so much brain power to read because it was so dense. i struggled to connect with the characters and get any grasp on their personalities except lila. decent but i won't be continuing the series any time soon

It felt very realistic and maybe therefor a bit underwhelming with all the hype around it. Read it if you want atmospherical poor napolitan neighborhood vibes, girlhood and the life of people that usually get glossed over.
