Not a cozy mystery but a decent read.

This book is a mess and a half, no one seems to have any common sense and Sam, Jake’s son is always so self deprecating that doesn’t follow logic in any world. I don’t understand the slightly paranormal elements that’s are in this series, it’s so waffly, either commit to it or leave it out. The audiobook narrator is awful as well, the emotions she was conveying seemed the opposite of what the author had written, the killer was portrayed as a giggling boy and not menacing as the author intended, it definitely took away from the storytelling.

Lots of different stories going on within the main story. Jake and Ellie go to work on the cabin they end up fighting for their lives because an escaped killer tries to kill them. He thinks Ellie looks like the wife he killed and Jake testified against him. Meanwhile Jake's son, Sam, gets involved with some con artists and has a close call both with breaking his sobriety and getting whacked on the head. Jake's husband gets shot and her dad and stepmom get in a car accident. It seems like everyone has a close call. In the background is the dead exhusbanc appearing to various people and warning them. A good Maine adventure.
