Okay. The storyline could have been interesting but this lady is the worst storyteller/writer in so sorry. Like someone told her she could write and I fear she cannot. Just had no flow or way of writing that sounded good

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a copy of this book to review!

Wendy Webb writes such intriguing stories. The keepers of Metsan Valo has lots of themes. Family, grief, local lore and becoming who you are meant to be. This is a story of a woman who inherits her grandmother’s mansion which comes along with some unique and mysterious elements. The plot grabbed me but overall I just could not get into this book. I have greatly enjoyed her other novels so much that I cannot in good conscience give a bad review and I don’t feel like this book deserves a bad review. It just wasn’t for me.

I love this author's earlier work. “The Tale of Halcyon Crane”, “The Vanishing” and “The End of Temperance Dare”. In my opinion, I wish she would return to her old Gothic mystery style stories.

This is a light read and not to scary. Although there were a few times that shivers raced up my spine.

Meh.

This story meandered and never quite does what it sets out to. It’s never a proper murder mystery worth getting invested in, the paranormal elements feel like afterthoughts, it doesn’t especially touch on grief or family tragedy (considering it’s literally about the death of a matriarch?!) and the usual Wendy Webb romance is especially bland.

This one felt half baked.

I love Wendy Webb, especially in the fall. I recognized some of the auxiliary characters from other books and I love how she has created a whole world! I really enjoyed Finnish supernatural elements. I feel like I really need to restart all of her books and read them in publishing date order. She is a favorite author and this book goes in line with that.
As for the story itself, it was fast paced and with the perfect amount of spook. The characters were all likable and relatable. I really love Anni and Theo’s relationship. And Arden was fun too. I have questions about Martin and Meri……maybe they will be answered in another book.

*I received this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) through NetGalley. I received this copy free in exchange for my honest review.*

I really loved the Finnish folklore, I just wish it had been utilized more! We barely spend any time on it. If it had been a bigger part of the plot (which it should have) this would have been a really great read. Pretty disappointing.

i liked the concept of this story, but wasn’t a huge fan of how it was executed. i think it would get more stars from me if it had more mystery to it, or switched perspectives throughout the book. still a good quick read though
