Amy, a medical student, winds up having the worst night of her life while doing a rotation in the Psych Ward.
While trying to conceal a secret from her past much is revealed during the nightmare she faces on Ward D. What should have been a quiet night of learning winds up turning into a crime scene right out of a thriller novel.

From the moment she entered the Ward I found myself constantly trying to piece the story together and anticipate the "what-ifs". I don't know who to trust! But as per all of McFadden's novels, I was left in the dark until it eventually unfolded on its own.

McFadden does Not disappoint, yet again, with this twisty mystery. McFan For Life!

Thank you Dreamscape and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Alright… if you aren’t able to look past some super stereotypical, clear biased, outdated thoughts and writings about mental health - schizophrenia in specific- please don’t read this book!

I’m here for the page turning, hooking, unrealistic story that is Amy’s. Even though the story takes place over a 13 hour period, I really enjoyed the pace as well as the content. I was consistently, guessing what the next element would be. Sometimes I’d like to jump ahead on the page, and I found myself covering the bottom of the page with my hand, because I wanted to be surprised when I actually got there.

Amy is a medical student who is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward and finds herself in a lot of danger. Just a disclaimer, not all psychiatric wards are like this and please seek care if you need it

Amy is an eager med school student who has been assigned to work the overnight shift at the local hospital's psych ward. Originally Amy's biggest problem is that she is being forced to work her first shift with her ex-boyfriend, but boy did this psych ward's patients have something else in store for her. On the ward, Amy encounters a man thats convinced he is Spiderman, a woman who knits non-stop, and a suspiciously handsome/charming young man who claims to hear voices telling him to kill others. But what Amy doesn't know is that her childhood best friend Jade is stuck in the psych ward and still battling demons from her past. During Amy's first night shift the ward comes alive and poses threats that it never has before. Throughout the night and early hours of the morning, Amy is forced to revisit her past and form relationships with individuals that the rest of the world has labeled "insane" to survive. Frieda McFadden does it YET AGAIN with this page-turning thriller and leaves her readers wondering who is going to make it till morning and which of the characters are actually "mentally insane". As someone with a love of psychology and true crime, this book had all I could ask for and I will definitely be reading more by McFadden.

Freida knows how to write a great twist into a book I truly thought I had the entire thing figured out as I moved through the book, but i was SO wrong. As the hours of Amy's shift continue, we learn why she was hesitant to complete this overnight stay, and learn more about the patients she is trapped with.

Very quick read. It got predictable at around 75%. I can’t go wrong with Freida, she’s a great pick me up when I’m in a reading slump.

This book really had me questioning my own sanity at times - I felt like I was being gaslighted! I couldn’t put it down, it was fantastic.
