I enjoyed every knife twist after knife twist. Fantastic series and a great installment. IT's a bit more dry and does not have the quantity of action that the first book contained but the action it does contain is very integral to the plot(s). As usual, character and world development are top notch.

Ok, things are really picking up now! The plot has finally started to coalesce, characters are finally making big choices, and consequences are occurring! This book is a good mix of plot driven and character driven development since the plot is being driven by the character's choices. Characters we thought were good are turning more gray. Characters we thought were bad, may have a point. And, we are finally getting some answers to our questions, which lead to more questions! (Which is my favorite kind of answer in the first place!) This book at a slightly higher rating simply because I enjoy getting answers to my questions!

you know when a comedian makes a joke in the beginning and then you forget about it because of all the other jokes that follow after until the end where he somehow ties his last joke with that first one? and you’re just like “this gah dang genius”
that’s how i felt with this one and gah lee is Week a genius.

Highly enjoyed my time with this third book in the series. The author continues to build upon his story, broadening the complex world. The character arcs and connections are extremely layered. There's a solid mythological/historical foundation in the world building that adds to the depth of the conflicts. We get to learn more about the magic system and its origin as well as continuing to explore the political system and its workings.

I didn't think this book was as good as the previous book because we're removed from the larger war that is going on, and focused more on the smaller conflicts, though they are no less important. We also spent a lot less time with one of our main, if not the main, protagonist (who happens to be my favorite character). There's still a lot going on that is yet to be explored or explained so I am looking forward to the next book.

Overall a fun read that involves lots of plotting, scheming, and politicking, as well as unexpected revelations and plot twists.

Let's just say that having reached mid way into this series, I still have absolutely no idea how it will be wrapped up! And I was absolutely not prepared for the twists in this one!
