Suffer in Silence is book 1 in the Malvagio Mafia Duet. It’s a dark romance with all the elements I crave in a mafia story: twists, suspense, action, and grit combined with a dose of angst and plenty of heat along with a diverse and interesting cast of characters. But what. a. cliffhanger. we’re left on.

Saxon Forbes is the eldest daughter of her family, a pre-med student and all-around good girl who just wants a family dinner for her 21st birthday. When her bestie, Nessa, convinces her to hit up Pulse, she locks eyes with Kage Malvagio and is instantly entranced. While she’s clueless as to who he is and what he does, as the granddaughter of Silas Kingston, she’s been on Kage’s radar for years.

When her beloved grandfather passes away, Saxon is unwittingly caught in the crossfire of a mafia/bratva war. Worse yet is how she ended up in this position.

What ensues is the story of Kage’s pursuit of revenge and the unexpected feelings for Saxon, who proves to hold her own against the broody, emotionless Don.

This fast-paced tale will draw you in from the very beginning and leave you breathless by the last page. I need answers and couldn’t wait to dive into Symphony.

I haven’t read a mafia romance since I was in high school, but I guess I’m just really not into it. I wasn’t really a fan of how fast everything went, it was weird. I could see why people love this book, but it just wasn’t for me.

Oh my! Suffer in Silence met and exceeded all my expectations even though they were already sky high due to its writer, Kelsey Clayton! It had everything I wished in a mafia book. Captivity, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, brooding and vicious hero/villain with a soft spot only for his one and only obsession, lots of secrets and backstabbing, lots and lots of hawt schmex and of course a fiery heroine who is as smart and savvy as she is beautiful. I mean I loved everything about the book and its ingenious multi-layered plot and its construction. The only complaint I have is the brutal cliffhanger that just shook me to my core but since the next book is coming out this month, I will handle it gracefully (not).
