I found the premise of the story to be to contrived.

The story was fine. The characters were fine. The pacing was fine. But, the narrator? Not well done.

We met our two mains last book. He’s the guy who saved the girl (& I mean girl, she’s 16) from the pedophile. We’re supposed to swoon, he’s made out to be the good guy. Isobel is the damsel in distress.

In this book, he promptly beds his bride then fucks off to London for 3 years. Now she’s of modern day legal age & the story can begin. Stuck in the country with her best friend she passes time the way only a horny 16 yr old can—she reads about sex. And she listens to her friend’s brothers’ exploits. Apparently, that’s enough to make her an expert.

You can read the Goodreads synopsis for more, I’m here to talk about the narrator. I’ve listened to her before & I don’t remember her doing this. During sex, innuendos, etc., she tries to sound breathy & bothered, but it comes off whiny. Seriously. She makes both characters sound like petulant children or like they’re about to cry. It didn’t change the rating, but my goodness, it was off putting.

Much like Isobel and Winter's inability to quit each other, I couldn't put this book down. I stayed up until nearly 2am to finish it, devouring every scrap of humanity, romantic gesture, and salacious encounter. A well-followed installment after [b:The Beast of Beswick|43263331|The Beast of Beswick (Everleigh Sisters, #1)|Amalie Howard|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1573000803l/43263331._SX50_.jpg|67142170], which I loved just as thoroughly. I highly recommend to reader who like a woman who takes charge of bringing her man to heel.
