my 2016 review of this on goodreads is so unbelieveably cringe that i'll spare you the gory details but some of my thoughts on reread:
coming back to read this after 5 years really gives you the chance to point out cliche tropes and badly written lines, however i am still obsessed with this book oh boy i missed these characters so much. sweet nehemia, kaltain pre-redemption arc, all the little hints about dorians powers, the simplicity of an enemies to lovers/masquerade ball, love triangle trope etc. still ranking this up there bc nostalgia

This. was. amazing!!
I’ve been hearing about S. J. Maas pretty much everywhere and despite the fact that it took me quite a while to actually pick one of her books up, I can now say that I 100% understand where people are coming from.
The writing of this book was really good and while reading, it felt like as if one was simply sliding through the story. A story that was exciting at all times on top of that. Literally.
I don’t remember a time where I thought of the book as boring or I didn’t wanna continue reading.
I’m excited to see where this series is going (even though i’m almost 10 years late, but hey! it’s never too late to read a good book/start a series, right?)
There were a few things/aspects that kind of made me wanna rate this 4.5 stars rather than 5 but.. as for now, I am gonna rate this 5 stars, which could change as I go on with the others but- this was a great start, really.
I’m looking forward to read the next one!

When I decided to get back into reading I decided some light and breezy YA would be the perfect place to start. I logged into TikTok for maybe the fifth time in my life and searched for the book recs of the yout and this popped up. Without knowing anything except it contained romance and fairies I downloaded the eBook and my god it's an irritating read. Dreadfully composed, with dialogue that makes me convinced that the author has never actually met a human person, I would not have advanced so far if it wasn't the only entertainment that I can access on my phone when I've got no 4G on the tube. Obstinately refusing to download another because I'd spent money on this one, I recently had the revelation that it's worth the £8 or so to read something, anything else and I probably won't complete this after all.
