Honest and hard-hitting

Really enjoyed reading this one. It’s plainly written and pulls no punches. The chronology of cases and outcomes get a bit confusing at times, but that’s a minor quibble all things considered. I hope Billy writes another one.

I’m such a big fan of this book. Billy Jensen’s life has been absolutely chaotic and I can only commend him for being THE most determined person I’ve ever heard of. I can’t even imagine living his life. The results he’s gotten out of thousands of dollars of his money and thousands of hours of his time has contributed to tons of cases being closed. I can’t even imagine what that work means to the families and friends of these victims.

The addendum of this book was fascinating. To hear how exactly amateur sleuths should go about becoming citizen detectives was energizing and I loved how he was incredibly realistic as he went about it.

Listen, I never get chills. But I got chills reading the last chapter and I knew what happened. My favorite thing I’ve read all year (sorry Karen and Georgia. Maybe a tie?).

Oh, this book made my tiny, black, true-crime-addicted heart sing. It's the book that launched a thousand Google searches.

Jensen tells his story in such an engaging way that you can almost forget it's non-fiction. And what a story - how he uses crowd-sourcing and targeted social media to catch the bad guys that (almost) got away.

And then...at the end...he tells you how you can do it yourself!

Billy Jensen is an absolutely brilliant writer and a crazy determined man.

The world is a better place because of him and justice happens because he’s willing to put in the brutal work and hours.

I’ve been a long time fan of his multiple podcasts and finally decided to pick up his book after he mentioned it on The First Degree. Getting to know his story was just interesting.

I also love that he has a call to action at the end with real steps to people who want to help solve cold cases.

Cannot recommend enough to people who feel like they can’t do anything about unsolved crimes.
