Wish this wasn’t as relevant as it is. Listened to the audiobook at work

Written in the 70s but feels extremely relevant for our current climate’s lack of nuance. At first I saw it in the queer section of a book store and was gonna be about non binary people. I was confused at first but got into it very quickly.

Would love to see this turned into a mini series starring Pedro Pascal and Sarah Paulson.

A fascinating and mysterious little book, lost and revived in a way that seems to ironically befit its subject matter. A back-cover quote describes it as "pastoral horror", which is the perfect name for it: a series of loose vignettes, following a protagonist whose name and gender are unknown, as they find snatches of peace and camaraderie in a tranquil English countryside under constant, inescapable threat. The sparsity and obliqueness of the narration kept me at arm's length, but also served to enhance the moments of idyllic beauty and ominous chills. I'd never heard of this author before, but now I'm intrigued!
