Not personally my cup of tea, but still really enjoyable! Good superhero story that’s not by Marvel or DC.

As a fan of Alicia Keys, I really enjoyed this book. The storyline was entertaining and it was nice to see how Lolo grew into her own person and learned to stand up for herself.

One thing I would've wanted to see more in the story is how
SpoilerLolo's mom left. It's alluded that she left because of her powers (and it was also slightly confirmed in the epilogue as she leaves her family again), but I wish that Alicia and Andrew would've gone in depth about it. She basically comes back to see her husband and children briefly, then leaves them all over again. That's weird.

I love this. My only issue is that the ending felt rushed.

SpoilerEric and Lolo only had one scene, so there was no buildup to him joining their friend group. Also, we didn't hear from Samantha after the sink thing, so I don't know why she was outcasted from her friend group or why LoLo would feel sorry for her.

This is an enjoyable super hero origin story, even if it is especially vague. Lolo lives with her brother, James. She bumps into Michael one day and powers are awoken in both of them. Michael's come to life when he's being bullied, and Lolo's when her brother is being needlessly caught by the police. A local drug dealer learns about both Michael and Lolo and wants to recruit both of them. Of course there's a showdown at the end, which is open-ended enough for sequels.

I was blown away by this graphic novel! It was incredible how much was packed, and packed well, into the story. There was great character development, not only for the MC, but for side characters too. The plot was compelling and read like any great superhero story. The art style was cool and made the action, of which there was a lot, easy to follow. I docked a half star because I felt like Eric and Samantha got easy, undeserved redemption arcs, and the storyline regarding Lolo and James’ mum was a little half-baked.
