i really enjoyed louisa morgan's a secret history of witches, and thought i'd feel similarly about this book. unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. this wasn't an objectively bad book, but it had some small quirks that just didn't keep me engaged.

the main characters were fairly well written, but the large cast of random side characters could be hard to follow. also, was emma an alien or a water witch child or what??? they got very weird about what she could actually be towards the end and never really answered the question. also, finding and burying emma's mom without any real second thoughts was somewhat glossed over.

overall, if you're looking for a witchy louisa morgan read, put down this book and grab a secret history of witches.

I thought it was going to be a fun witchy book but it's going to be all about motherhood and how much more satisfying life would be with a child.

Very little Plot. More a dairy of life. Interesting characters for their time.

It was okay? There’s no plot really, so it’s all vibes & many unanswered questions.

Edit: This book has crossed my mind a few times & it’s just so frustrating how literally no questions were answered? Like there was such opportunity for some mystery & intrigue but no…

I am not sure how to explain this story. Or how to even review it. It was something completely different than I have ever read. I loved it. Barrie Ann is an amazing and strong woman. As is Aunt Charlotte. This book has wonderful strong women who dont have to rely on a man, but never turn down help when they know they need it.
I do plan to read her other novel when I get a chance.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me this arc in exchange for an honest review.
