Almost Summer

This e-book novella is part of Mallery’s Fool’s Gold series. When Alistair’s visit to his friend, Simon, endangers Simon’s wife, Montana’s pregnancy (he has the measles), Paige offers Alistair a place to stay and nurses his back to health.

Paige is still in mourning for her Aunt, who she grew up with after her parent’s deaths. Paige has always wanted to see the world, but feels stuck in Fool’s Gold, so she turns to Alistair, whose stories about travelling all over the world as a surgeon makes her yearn to follow his lead.

Alistair hasn’t felt the pull to stop his travels, even after the death of his wife and baby daughter, but he sees how at home his friend, Simon, is in Fool’s Gold, and Paige’s presence calls to him.

This is a very sweet book and both characters are likable and fit together well. It really whet my appetite for the next book in the Fool’s Gold series…and stands up to the rest of the books before it, despite the lack of hanky panky that I enjoy in Mallery’s books.

Pecans: 5/5

It is short. It seems a little foolish that people could fall in love in such a short time frame. But I still enjoyed it.

3.5 Stars Very cute novella. I would have liked more, but for what it was, I enjoyed it enough.

This is another cute story with a very interesting beginning. The hero has measles after all or at least the traces of it. I wish this was a longer story. I would have loved to read more.

So, these were my initial thoughts upon finished Almost Summer by Susan Mallery. And, I was definitely correct. I've completely forgotten about this novella, but I had a nice time reading it.

The beginning of the novella was pretty cute. Alistair is a traveling surgeon. He goes all around the world helping people. He is very good at what he does. When Alistair arrives at Fool's Gold to see his friend, Simon, however, he brings along a nasty virus. Unfortunately Alistair has caught Measles, and now he can't stay with Simon, because his wife is pregnant. In steps Paige, who just happens to see the exchange. She offers Alistair a place to stay while he recovers. It's a pretty humorous first scene, right out on the sidewalk, and I definitely enjoyed it.
As Paige cares for a sick Alistair they connect and start to fall for each other. Paige, who has always wanted to travel and see the world, is fascinated with Alistair's travels. Alistair has some demon's of his own though. I really did like Alistair and Paige. I liked them together, and I liked them individually. That said, I can't remember anything else about this novella. It was super adorable, and I enjoyed it absolutely while I was listening to the audiobook. Tanya Eby is a great narrator for the series, and although I didn't love her British accent for Alistair, I didn't hate it either. Unfortunately, the minute I finished the book, I forgot about it. It's not very memorable. But still, enjoyable enough, and I'm glad I read it. If you like small town romance, absolutely look into Mallery's Fool's Gold series. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook

Another nice novella - but another person who I was hoping would get a whole story of his own! This is Alistair, the doctor who is friends with Simon-the-surgeon who we encountered on the phone in a previous book. We already knew that he'd lost a wife and child so I was hoping we'd get a full length story to show him finding love again. But this is still nice and satisfying even if I wish it was longer!

Liked it, cute quick read.

But Alistair is a courtesy viscount and he thinks his one of his brothers can take on the earldom when his father passes? I don't think that's how it works is it?
