It funny because I really loved the book despite me not loving the FMC as much by the end. I thought the story was well done and I like the messaging behind the story. I love that the crew got back together again. I love the first person experience of mental health issues. I like how it ended and I'd love a spin off series for V.

Overall, I thought the story itself was interesting and a lighter read than some of the other books I've read this year. There is really only 1 spice scene and it's pretty closed door (in my opinion). Much more of a slow burn.

I would recommend this to other friends.

I understand why the ending happened the way it did, but it still makes me want to rage. Beautiful and well done story.

Ok, I'll be honest. I did not like the beginning of this book. I felt that the character development we had with Amora from the end of the first book regressed when we opened with the beginning of this book. The tyrannic entitlement we were presented with which continued throughout the story made it extremely difficult to like her. However, maybe that's the beauty in Adalyn Grace's writing. She gives you a main character filled with flaws and somehow by the end of the book you end up liking the character.

Secondly, this book deals with the theme of grief throughout it. *Spoilers ahead*
Peppered throughout the action of Amora and co's adventures across Visidia, we follow the tumultuous emotions of Amora as she deals/or rather tries to suppress her grief over the death of her father. Anger is a common theme but we get to see her reach closure with her character arc within the last couple of chapters. It is bittersweet as we say goodbye to other characters as well.

All in all, All the Tides of Fate provides us with an expansion to the other magics of Visidia, peppered with swash-buckling adventure, an entitled grieving Queen tied up in a bittersweet ending.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Overall Review (spoilers)
Though I rated this book five stars, I do have some qualms with it. I want to get the good out of the way first.
This book’s writing was a step above All the Stars and Teeth! I really enjoyed the exploration of the rest of Amora’s kingdom and more of an explanation of how her magic works. I also loved the way in which PTSD was explored within this book. Overall, it’s a great read and a great book.
Now for my issues with it. I felt like the characters I read in this book are different than the ones I read in the last one. Amora seems less like a caring, kind, and strong princess and more of a brat who only sees herself dealing with grief. Bastian lacked a lot of his charm and swagger from the last book. The two main characters just did not seem like themselves. Now, I have explained this away in the fact that they are both cursed, as Amora’s lost part of herself and Bastian has more soul than he should. However, it took the rest of the characters in this book way too long to call Amora out for her selfish and reckless actions, and she got away relatively easily with some pretty horrible things.
Plot Rating:
The reason I rated this book five stars is that it really is just that good when it comes to plot. Despite having some predictable plot points, Adalyn Grace does a pretty great job making them come off as natural and not as just common tropes. I read this book in a day because I could not put it down.
Favorite Quotes:
“Laugh, Amora. Make them love you because the standards are different for us, Amora. “
“I always make it out okay…it is everyone else around me who gets hurt.”
“Men don’t always need lessons; sometimes they need punishments. His age is no excuse…”
“But which outweighs the other? The wrong or the rights?”

“Make this life everything it should be”

It took me a little longer to read this because I kept putting it off but once I got into it I was ok. I struggled getting through the first 50 or so pages but once past that it got better. I guess I just didn't enjoy this duology as much as i have with other books which is why I'm giving it a lower rating. There was nothing particularly wrong with it I just felt as though it was missing something and it's not the most memorable read. However there was still good qualities to it and I would recommend the duology to specific people. Also I thought it was more pirate-y which its not really got anything to do with that it's just sailing, which obviously is not the authors problem, it's just the person recommending it made it seem as though it was based around pirates which I was looking forward to.
• Royalty, kingdom
• Magic, powers
• Good characters
• Some romance (not heavily focused on it but uts there)
• Made me cry a lil bit
• Good ending
