Clever, little weird, but entertaining story. The main character's -- Rick -- job is to hunt and "retire" Androids, not the phones :), masquerading as humans. This book follows approximately one (and a half?) days of Rick's life as he hunts the androids that are supposed to be the most advanced yet.

Interesting discussions about real v not-real and religion.

Listened to the audiobook for this one and I think it might have hindered my experience with it a little bit. Still enjoyable, especially when comparing and contrasting it with Blade Runner (1982), but I found that the story at times wasn’t captivating and I especially wasn’t a fan of the narrator’s voice for Isidore.

It’s an amazing book with some really amazing scenes but being a big fan of both of the films that spawned from it. I honestly think that the book is worse. It’s very much a different story than the first film, and I find the ending, while good, less interesting than the movies. There is also a couple of plot points and characters that I could do without and I see why they weren’t in the movie. Overall it’s a book that defined sci-fi but I do think that it’s not perfect. If you do love the blade runner movies or android philosophy then it’s worth the read

This was the the first Philip K. Dick I've read, and I liked it way more than I thought I would based on what I knew (which was not much -- I've never seen "Blade Runner," although I played a pretty strange CD-ROM game way back based on the movie). It was a lot weirder and a lot deeper than I'd anticipated, and I zoomed through reading this in about a day and a half. As I was reading, I was reminded a lot of Haruki Murakami, which would make sense since he's apparently heavily influenced by Dick. It's funny to read in reverse like that. It was a little bit strange reading about an imagined future that is only a few years ahead of now, but it didn't really bother me. Aaanyway... good introduction to this author, great book.
