This is my first time reading this author and while I enjoyed the story overall (it ticks off a lot of my favorite things) I was a little underwhelmed. The pacing of the plot was bizarre and the ending felt like a jumble of things happened at once without me really understanding what was happening. The bones were good, but I wish this story had been a bit more fleshed out.

The main characters jumped super quickly from hatred to adoration (in an unbelievable way) and the plot lost me around the halfway mark. Do I still love a good enemies to lovers book? Of course. Am I itching to read another from this author soon? Not really. I think I wish this book had more meat to it so that characters could have been explored, relationships could have been developed (both romantically but also side ones as well), and that the lore of this world had been given more space to be unfolded. I know there's technically a first book in this series, but it's marketed as a standalone so I shouldn't need to read that one to understand this one.

All in all, probably a 2.5 star for me, round up to 3 for GR.

Meh.
I was hoping to read an actual retelling of Hades x Persephone's brother story, instead i had vampires, elves and an annoying human.
I was confused till page 60 at least.
The characters had great attitudes and descriptions, still i feel like they miss something. The passage from disdain to love was very abrupt. Arlo went to knife on throat to full make out session in half a page.
I'm confused, i didn't grasp the romance. I didn't understand half the story and i was mostly bored.
Arlo didn't seem to actually love him, more like lust + 'eh, he's there. he needs love, I'll give it to him'.
Same from Faerin that probably loved him simply because Arlo was the only one who didn't died at his touch.
The story needed more time, more plot and especially a lil bit of action (that was all concentrated in the last 30 pages or something).
It's a big meh for me and im sorry because i was excited at the original plot.

I’m giving this a 3.5 officially. It just didn’t really keep my interest tbh, I will say tho the last 30% had me paying attention though. Overall it was ok but it just didn’t click for me

Literally perfect until the last 40 pages.
Spoilerturning Arlo into a vampire absolutely ruined the rest of the book for me and I pushed through the ending in a rage

This read like a kindle unlimited book ... then I found out it was one.

God I had such high hopes for this book after the first one. The idea of this sounded great and it was in the beginning but then it went completely downhill.

They got together out of Arlo's pity not romance, when
Spoiler Myrinn betrayed them  I had the idea that she was just pretending so that they would open the portal and she'll be able to get Arlo vampire blood. Like a double agent. But no, she was just an idiot

It lacked dept and some of the descriptions made me cringe and laugh.

I'm not gonna stop reading from the author since I actually liked the first book but I am hoping this was a once off bad book.
