I did this one on audiobook - Elizabeth Warren is a great speaker and knows how to tell a story. Great to learn about her background as we dive into presidential election season.

This book is an autobiographical account of the meteoric rise of a small town girl from Oklahoma to US Senator .

Senator Warren reveals the harsh reality of how the absolute decimation of American middle class through de-regulation of the finance sector bought about in the span of one generation “Reaganomics” has left families teetering on the brink of bankruptcy with multiple loans from housing to education .Predatory lending practices from banks through decades targeting vulnerable sections of the societies . The book goes on to tell her role in the forming the consumer watchdog program on such practices , handling of TARP bailout to the Dodd Frank regulations and how lobbying controls congress .

Off-course Elizabeth Warren has impeccable credentials Harvard Law professor , 30 years of finance regulatory work , US Senator Massachusetts but more importantly I found her genuinely concerned for the working class .

This woman is real. She talks about her plans for overhauling the financial oversight structure in America and then in the next paragraph talks about losing her dog or walking into a pole. She is relatable and smart and a damn good academic. She knows when to fight and when to compromise. She's the real deal. Glad to have her in the Senate fighting for everyday people.

I'm sorry to say I have a pretty jaded view of American politics these days. I think most politicians are in it for the money and the power, that the words "public servant" have inexplicably become dirty to many of them, and that government of the people, for the people, and by the people has become perverted to the point that it seems like a quaint, old-fashioned notion.

But there are still politicians like Elizabeth Warren who prevent me from sliding into utter cynicism. She is one of the few I believe in, one of those increasingly rare politicians who seems to be in it to fight the good fight for the common folk, and not because she's motivated by the sweet corporate job she'll be able to get once she's ready to retire from politics. Were Congress filled with people like her, I can only imagine what this country would be able to accomplish.

I love Elizabeth Warren! I hope she has the opportunity to continue leading us in the fight to take our nation back for the people - ALL the people. I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir of her early life up through her election to fill the U.S. Senate seat held by both John and Ted Kennedy. She is a wonderful person, and i regret that i just became aware of her during the most recent Democratic National Convention. She has the intellect, knowledge, and spunk to lead us home, and I'd give her my vote for President in a heartbeat. She persisted!!!
