This was the perfect escape read I needed right now. This is the first book I've read of Allen's and will definitely be reading more. I loved it!

Ingredients: Mystery, Fantastical Elements, Whimsy, Hope

Mix all these together. Add a dash of awkward sex (that really wasn’t needed) and top off with sugar.

Quick, cute, whimsical read. Half realistic, half fantasy. The writing is very fun. This author is great with her descriptions. Don’t read while hungry or during a time when you’re not allowed to eat.

This was a 3 🌟 read for me. The writing is beautiful and the author knows how to engage the reader. Both protagonist's are interesting and flawed. Julia has survived the deepest of depression and I could easily have read a prequel and a sequel about her. Emily's story is a little lighter but enjoyable. Both love stories build well, Julia's is my favourite. I enjoyed the little magical element's throughout and the town mysteries. My issue with this book is that there was so much build up then it was all just resolved, there was no conflict. I found myself with 3 chapters left wondering how it was over so quickly.

This was the perfect cozy book for me. I felt immersed in the Southern setting and loved the characters and pacing. I also enjoyed the light elements of magical realism incorporated into the plot. The least believable element for me was the existence of Southern gentlemen. I also am confused why a side character was described as having "exotic" eyes several times despite this being written in the 21st century. But overall, love the theme of homecoming and small town vibes.
