When it comes to books by Jodi Ellen Malpas, I just devour them. I can't get enough of them. Once you start reading one of her books, they are so hard to put down. I have read The Brit and The Enigma in 3 days. After reading The Brit on Kindle, I immediately ordered the first three paperbacks in this series.

The Enigma is book 2 in the Unlawful Men series. I would recommend reading The Brit before reading this as you do get characters from that book appearing in this one.

When reading The Brit, you got action almost every step of the way. With The Enigma, the first half of the book is still riveting and drags you in, but it is more subdued as it does focus more on James & Beau, who they are and how they deal with events that happened in their past. The second part the goes to being gritty and intense. You also get a lot of twists and turns keeping the suspense level high.

This book is still quite dark, but not as dark as The Brit.

I can't wait to read The Resurrection, where I know, we are going to meet all these characters again.

Okay I originally rated it 4 stars but to be honest I think it’s more 3.5.

This book was good. It was two damaged people fighting their insecurities and finding love. It was spicy, there was mystery. Their was corrupt cops, millionaire business men, FBI agents, meddling family members, other man drama.

Here’s what I did not like. The heroine. The 300 pages of miscommunication. She would assume something. She would run away. Then when they finally had sex and then they they talked about it everything was fine. And repeat until he finally told her the whole truth. The spice was good. There was BDSM theme. I don’t get why he kept telling her to take a bath.

James was such a good possessive patient Hero that never gave up on his heroine and redeemed a lot of the book for me. I really enjoyed the plot enough to continue with the series and go back and read book 1 so I can read book 3. I’m excited now that there’s no miscommunication where book 3 will go for the couple. And I’m excited to see who the Bear is and see more of the Brit and his wife!

There are trigger warnings. Death, murder, bdsm, miscarriage.

Absolutely adored the book! I loved James and Beau’s relationship. I can’t help but fall in love for men like James

"She's toxic. But to me, she's a balm. And I'm fatal. But to her, I'm life."

James Kelley also known as The Enigma was totally intense, violent, secretive and also a big softie for Beau. He was supposed to stop her but fell in love with her instead. From the first moment they interacted, Beau & James brought a simle on my face. In the first half however, I didn't feel so connected with them but I started to warm up to them as the story progressed and their past was explained. I felt like the middle part was dragged a lot but the last half particularly from 78% or so started becoming funny and then suddenly, Beau & James pack up, escape and enter into a whole new world out of nowhere and the book ends in a HFN kind of situation. Basically, I can see that the whole plot of this series is well planned and I loved the interesting twists that left me playing the guessing game. I loved the trill and mystery of finding out the truth and more than that, I loved to see a strong female character like Beau. Yes, she was lost and broken but being with James helped her a lot and I feel like she'll slowly be back to her old self, she just needs some time to grieve properly. Hopefully we see her actually getting her rainbows and sunshine ending in the next book. I'm so excited to read the next book and find out what happens next!
