This is genuinely one of the best books I’ve read in quite a while. It’s short and perfect for Autumn with the spooky month just around the corner.
My only regret is starting it as my nightly audiobook- I couldn’t fall asleep because I was so invested and stayed up all night til the end

Creepy, but also fun and sweet. A shorter version of this would make the perfect scary story to tell in the dark. I enjoyed this story of growing up and still wanting the magic of make believe.

While I'm not disappointed that I read this by any means, I could have lived without, lol. To start, I liked the children's story making and their dedication to it. Very relatable and familiar to my own growing up and my siblings' growing up. Especially the fear of growing up and out of the story. But Zach's lie about quitting the story was very pointless and unbelievable to me. I also found The Queen to be interesting, and only wish she was used more, if that makes sense.
But my biggest grief with this book is in the beginning. Explaining a 12 year as old almost as tall as his dad and hands big enough that "catching a basketball was a lot easier"??? Tell me you don't know a 12 year old without telling me you don't know a 12 year old. And even worse that that, the only black girl of the group was described as having developed curves and "looking a lot older" at 10 years old. I shouldn't have to explain the problem there.

This is a very fun and creepy book that isn't too creepy. Just the right amount of creepy went into this one.
