It’s interesting and I liked it but I guess I don’t actually care that much about how my body works lol

This book is a MUST read not just for those who menstruate but for everyone! We understand so little of the female body thanks to the patriarchy and white supremacist histories that have ignored women. Kate Clancy skillfully breaks down myths and stigmas in easy-to-understand ways. I also appreciated the anthropological approach to understanding the cultural importance/rituals around menstruation around the world.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this a lot and there were so many things I learned from reading this book. Some of it felt a bit overly academic, but that may just be a me problem. I loved the feminist lens and that this was written by an anthropologist, which allowed the author to give so many different insights from a perspective that is not heard as often.

Finally, a book all girls can relate to! Very informative but also laced with a heavy dose of political opinions. Would recommend to anyone who wants a more thorough knowledge of the menstrual cycle.

Really enjoyed this even though at times it was VERY scientific and kind of a slog. Overall I appreciate this and learned quite a bit, plus this is what current nonfiction should sound like in regards to race, sex, and gender! Open forum and with all parties accounted for and discussed not just cis white folk. I appreciate this author and her passion for the science of Periods and menstruation not enough people who actually have a period for 40+ years are in the room discussing and researching but that is changing!
Bottom line don’t be ashamed of your bodies ability to regulate itself and your reproductive system doing the thing! Also as an FYI the “standard” 28 day cycle is a lie. And most women have a varied cycle that changes the 28 day is an average. As in the math made that the rule but it’s really the exception.

This was so informative and contained some really, really interesting data, but ultimately it is a textbook. I just couldn't concentrate long enough to get through it, even though it was short.
Graphic: Sexism, Medical content, Fatphobia, and Eating disorder
Minor: Colonisation
