I enjoyed this book but it wasn't without problems. I liked the idea of a SWAT team of werewolves and I very much enjoyed the members of the team. I also really liked Zac and hope he gets a book.

My biggest problem was with Mackenzie. While she was independent and took no crap from anyone, even the SWAT members, she came across as naive to the point of stupidity a couple of times, which is not a realistic portrayal of a long time investigative journalist.

The other problem was the sheer number of proofreading errors that made it seem like the publisher couldn't be bothered with the final step of the process.

I feel meh about this one largely because the couple didn't have much chemistry until after the point when they needed it. I kept waiting for some spark in the beginning that would make me feel that they're supposed to be together, but I didn't get it. The author kept telling us they were intensely attracted to each other, but I wasn't invested in their attraction/relationship because I didn't care about either of them that much and couldn't feel any of their sexual tension. I don't know if that makes sense, but nevertheless, the reason I kept reading was largely because I find books like this addictive and was really enjoying the suspense side of the story.

Regardless, I had a lot of fun with this book, especially at the end, and I think the concept of a SWAT team of werewolves is slightly ridiculous in that perfect way that makes it so awesome. I hope (if I do read the next one) we learn more about the werewolf lore/culture. I also appreciated that Gage wasn't uber-arrogant and controlling. It was kind of strange, because I think the author was trying to make him like the other slightly overbearing love interests that populate the pages of so many paranormal romance novels, but he clearly wasn't. I wish she had settled into his character a bit more instead of trying to force him into a role I don't think he fits into the way she might have originally expected or intended. It might have made me like him a bit more than I did, or at least feel something stronger than "meh."

I was in the mood for a good shifter story, and this didn't disappoint!

Gage Dixon is the alpha to the SWAT team made up solely of werewolves. They are secretive and ultra-exclusive. Their dedication to keeping Dallas safe from crime is paramount, but Mackenzie is a journalist who is sniffing out a story. There's something not quite right about Dixon and the rest of the SWAT team...

When the wolves decide to put on a charade for Mackenzie to convince her they are not involved in anything illegal, she gets swept up in a plot to bring the SWAT team down.

When Mackenzie finds out the SWAT team's major secret, will she make the biggest break of journalism's history or will she explore her animalistic attraction to Gage Dixon?
