i was so hesitant to start this book because, even though i thoroughly enjoyed queen and conqueror, it didn’t blow me away. knowing this would follow hira wasnt enticing to me, so i put it off for a few months.

holy shit am i glad i picked this up again.
hira’s death literally made me scream and when the following chapters switched to other POVs i legitimately thought she was dead and cried so hard i had to stop reading a for the day. that’s when i knew i was in trouble and was too attached to hira.

this book has incredible twists that blindsided me every step of the way
except for justan being ryker, but by that point who else could it have been?
i love love love quent, hira, and
justan/ryker’s
relationship. the goodbye on the beach had me sobbing.

the kidnapping of the baby was ruthless and almira’s grief was so palpable i once again had to but the book down bc i was experiencing genuine pain.
i hope that this is all resolved in the next book, although im finding it hard to believe that will happen when i think we’ll be reading sanaa, quent, kaia, and the lord’s POVs in the next book.

also, what a fucking jumpscare having the last chapter be in
arrigo’s
POV? the fuck is that about?

5/5. i love a book that makes me feel every range of emotions. this was fucking phenomenal and i’m anxiously awaiting the next one!

“You don’t have to prove yourself to anyone.” But Quent’s eyes narrowed. She could see his determination by the light of the moon. “Yes, I do. We all do, even you.”

Queen Almira forces her cousin Hira to return to Istok and lead her people. When Hira boards the Sea Wife, she doesn’t expect Commander Justan to be combative and surly. He questions her every decision and challenges her authority. He’s also clearly keeping his own secrets. It’s a journey fraught with complications which will either kill her or make her rise as the Great Dragon. Even when the High Seat is contested. Even when they’re at the brink of a war, Queen Almira might not win.

Blurghilborgilygahhhhhh this book, THIS BOOK, y'all ... Isabelle is one of my fave indie authors. Seriously. I am here for all the sweary, smutty, kick ass womaning that is this book. The world building is a VIBE. Like I want to visit but I am also scared because unless I am friends with Almira, I know life is going to be scarrry. I LOVED joining Hira on her journey. I wanted to just wrap Quent up in a big fluffy blanket and cuddle him for days. I literally messaged Isabelle at one point like nooooooo what have you done? The twists and turns are an absolute blast. Just everything about this series is fantastic. Obsessed. Come join me in my obsession.

"Like all the ancestors before me who worshiped the sky, every night away from you, I shall paint your name into the stars."

Some entertaining, though not altogether unpredictable twists.

As I read through all the other strong, glowing reviews it reminds me that everyone’s tastes are different. This was not a mind blowing book for more nor as strong or stronger than the first one. Yes, I went into it skeptical because Hira is not an enjoyable character, but had issues with other aspects of this story.

The timeline. Hira ran away when she was 18, it was admitted a few times throughout the book she spent 2yrs with Almira. However, this doesn’t quite add up with the timeline of the books. Or at least it didn’t seem to make sense as the timeline was never really clear, but book one seemed to happen in a matter of months. IDK - I was extremely lost as it felt like Almira was either pregnant for longer than she should have been or events in book 1 took longer than what was explained.

A few of the big plot points were pretty obvious from the moment they were hinted at, making the “big reveal” a bit boring. That’s not to say I guessed all the twists - but a lot were loudly choreographed they were coming. The final “twist” at the end really made me reconsider continuing this series (especially with some changes to Alton & Almira’s relationship).

IDK. This might be where I tap out on the series. I wouldn’t say these books are bad - not at all. I just have some issues that took away from the overall enjoyment for myself. That final twist though - that really killed a lot of love I had.
Baby getting kidnapped - not for me. Pass. No. I’m sure they’ll rescue her, but it’s not a twist/trope/whatever I like unless it’s quickly resolved in the same book. Which this obviously is not.

Beautiful, Fantastic, Mesmerizing

The cover photo is too mesmerizing and I am glad that I read this book. It is filled with magic, action, suspense, and adventure.

The book has been written very beautifully. The world-building is absolutely fantastic and I could visualise everything happening in front of my eyes. This is Book 2 of The Queen's Red Guard series. You need to read book 1 to fully understand what is going on. The author has a captivating style of writing and it will not make you bored.

I will definitely recommend this book to all the fantasy lovers. Grab your copy today guys. It is available on Kindle Unlimited too.

I have been waiting to yell about my love for this book ever since I beta read it months ago! And then the time came and I struggled to pummel all my love and emotions into a review that was both passionate and coherent
