The moment Eli and Violet are back in each other’s presence again, they go right back to their beautiful bickering as if they’re still children in a sandbox. Neither of their lives have gone the way they wanted, the way they had planned. He’s not a world renowned doctor, and she’s not some heavyweight lawyer in New York. The difference? Eli has accepted this and is happy with his choice in being home. Violet? Just more fuel to her spiteful fire. They both seem stuck in the past when it comes to each other. However, she seems to be cemented in the past entirely. She has the drive and is stubborn enough to grab life by the horns, but unfortunately, she’d rather remain focused on being enemies to Eli. And it’s disappointing. It also meant she lacked character development for 99% of the book. I know he wasn’t innocent in it all, but she just seemed entitled and awful. I’m glad he made sure to give her crap back. When the egos and pride were tucked away? They were great together! Considering how often we were reminded they were in a gossiping small town, they somehow managed to forget themselves and were baffled when everyone knew they were sneaking around. I was also completely turned off by her job/the company they worked for. Everything seemed exaggerated. And it took me out of the story. The third act? I pushed through the DNF. All the trust that was built between them, and she suddenly stopped trusting him? I’m so annoyed he forgave her, and so easily! Why was HE the one groveling?! And then pure perfection followed as if nothing ripped them apart? My rating is based on how petty that made me. And if you’re curious, the benefits didn’t start until nearly 50%.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “If you ever change your mind about needing something sweet, just let me know.”
• “You better not kiss me.”
• “The point of this is to see how loud I can make you come. Pissing you off a little is just a fun bonus.”
• “I said loud. I fucking meant it.”
• “I like the way my name sounds in your mouth.”
• “At the moment, you are most of my sins.”
• “I want you to wake up every morning knowing someone loves you.”

7/10 Dirty Birdy
7/10 Enemies to Lovers
6/10 Forced Proximity
6/10 Slow Burn
5/10 Workplace Romance

I really liked the book. However, I did not like how false the timing was. The week has suddenly two weekends, or one weekend happens in the one chapter but does not happen in the next. So much that does sadly not make sense. I had to go back more than once and check if I did not understand the timeline but sadly I did and it was just not lining up.

A perfectly acceptable enemies to lovers contemporary romance in which a pair of long standing childhood rivals battle each other and their attraction while they get to know the new grown-up versions they now are.
