Not a bad retelling of Robin Hood. I liked the way it was turned around and I was surprised by the romance in it. Lots of action, although some of it was a bit unbelievable. The fact that Marian runs around all over the place and no one notices. I also think that people would have recognised her horse.
Still worth reading.

I wanted to love this one because I loved Hunted by the same authot, but unfortunately I just feel like there was something missing from this book. Marian had potential to be a very interesting character, but in some ways she just felt like a stereotypical "not like other girls" protaganist. That's not to say I didn't like her as a character, I just felt like there was an element of depth missing. The plot was very interesting and was the main reason I was tuned into the book. I'm always up for a twist on a fairytale, so a Robin Hood retelling with Maid Marian as the protaganist was right up my alley.
My two main issues with this book are these. First, the romance felt very forced. I didn't think that this book benefited from having a romance subplot, and I also don't understand why either Marian or her love interest cared about one another. And the other thing is sort of nitpicky from me, but the author seemed to allude to the ethics of the Robin Hood way of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, which is all fine and dandy until the characters continued their behaviors? I just felt that if ethics are going to be brought into the Robin Hood story...have there be a lesson to be learned. I felt like some elements of the themes in this book could have been fleshed out more.
All in all, this was an enjoyable book and I can't complain too much. I had a good time reading this book, and what more can you really ask for?

Why couldn't the whole book have been as good as the last 100 pages??

Honestly, this book was a bit of a hit or miss for me. I adored her Beauty and the Beast retelling [b:Hunted|24485589|Hunted|Meagan Spooner|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1467052649s/24485589.jpg|44080112], but this one just fell a bit short of my already high expectations. It's probably more 'it's me not you' type of situation because I have been in such a terrible reading slump these past few months and that may have affected my enjoyment. Firstly, I'd like to say that I think Meagan Spooner is a fantastic writer, and this was a unique gender-swapped retelling of the folk hero Robin Hood. Marian was an intriguing character, and I enjoyed the group dynamic between Robin Hood and her Merry Men. Gisborne was also an interesting, albeit unlikeable, character. I never really came to like him like I'm assuming you're supposed to All in all, a little disappointed, but I feel like maybe that's not the fault of the book. Full review to come.
