I can't get past the part where
there's a romance between two women who consider themselves sisters? And.. nobody thinks that's weird?

The first 2/3 of the book took me a while to get through, a slow burn of story building. The last 1/3, AMAZING! Shocking discoveries that I didn’t see coming. I would suggest to anyone in search of a sapphic, supernatural, fantasy, thriller all rolled into one.

Comparing this book to one of my favorites (The Power by Naomi Alderman) in the blurb is rather high praise so obviously I needed to pick it up. While it may be stretch to compare Murphy's work to Alderman's, this book was a surprisingly fun ride, tackling topics like women's rights, bodily autonomy, and the struggle between power, ambition, and recognition. Definitely can see this turn into a movie someday.
