Truly a masterpiece in storytelling. David is a dick but his mom forgives him and loves him anyway. Even snot nosed kids deserve love (just not from me).

This was a ground-breaking book for me, a book that truly shows how a toddler might feel going through the day and getting into trouble every minute. David is presented as a bit of a terror, it's true, but he's not doing anything that much worse that my own kiddos have done! The childlike illustrations are more complicated than they seem: great use of perspective shows the child's view (looking up at the cookie jar, for example), and the rough features of David's face and body (the triangle nose!) contrast with more realistic background details to keep the reader firmly set in the child's world.

Even as an adult, I loved the book! I was a rambunctious child myself, and I heard the word “no!” much more than any other word (from my parents).
I found this book in my library’s “Always-available banned books” list. No idea why anyone tried to get this book banned. I saw nothing even remotely upsetting.

I love this silly book for 3-6-year-olds! They will love the funny pictures and maybe even relate to some of the ways that David's parent is speaking to him. The end can spark a valuable discussion on how our parents love us despite our crazy mistakes. There are very few words so early readers can use this to practice a few sight words and experience a story through still illustration.

No, David! is a classic children's picture book. I remember being read this book in my library when I was in Elementary school. No, David! is about a boy named David that gets into all sorts of trouble. His mom is constantly shouting "No, David!" No, David! is nearly a wordless picture book. The illustrations are bright and colorful and really tell the story. No, David! may be hard to read aloud, because it is nearly wordless, but it is a perfect book for young readers or those just learning to read.

Poor David. Active David gets in trouble left and right, all the day long. Shannon has great illustrations.

This book has been a top favorite for two years running. We have since read all of David Shannon's books.

David's sharp teeth kind of freak me out a little, but other than that this is an endearing story.
