My brain is too mushy for coming up with a brilliant review. Have a keysmash instead:

The stories are alright, but they are similar in style to certain Chinese classics. That is, they are rather 'matter of fact' and don't really grip you emotionally. Moreover, Nakajima keeps so close to the source material he is drawing on (those Chinese classics) I sometimes thought I could just as well read the sources.

I did especially enjoy Li Ling. I felt the characters had more depth than in the other stories.

I truly enjoyed, loved, and will continue to think about some of the stories in this collection. Giving rise to thought, questions and pondering about myself and the world.

But, with that said, they ofc can't all be winners, and I had to fight against boredom to get through some of the other stories in this, where I lacked the same feeling of wonder that some of the others brought me.

But on the collection as a whole, I found myself liking it a lot.

Some of the stories were cool and interesting but some of the longer ones in the middle were kind of boring. Like they just dragged on for too long and didn't really make much sense.
