Lexie Rogers goes undercover to replace Rex Donaldson who has just found out there is a contract out on his life and he needs to go into hiding. A nice simple premise but that's just the beginning of the interwoven story lines in this book. Everything is connected. Seemingly unrelated events all come back to the same criminal and events. It's so interwoven to be a bit confusing at times and when it comes to wrapping the story up it seems rushed and just as far fetched.

This could have been better but I think it tried to hard to be do too much at the same time.

‘When fear is your friend, who needs enemies?’

Lexie Rogers is an experienced police officer, a detective, about to embark on her first big undercover assignment. As Lara Wild, she’ll be involved in exposing a huge drug dealing ring in Sydney. It’s dangerous work, which suddenly becomes more complicated when the past intrudes. And, as Lexie embarks undercover, her boyfriend Josh is on the NSW north coast tracking down marijuana growers. Lexie’s usual work partner, Brad, is caught up in an explosion and her mentor Rex is in danger.

‘There were more deceptions, pretences and backstabbing going on within this crowd than in one of those reality shows.’

Enter a world where large egos and sleazy behaviour are the norm. Everyone has an angle, and there are quite a few dislikeable villains. And in the policing world, there are a few issues as well. There’s no shortage of action in this novel, but it’s difficult to say more about the various threads to the story without spoiling the novel for a first-time reader. There are a few twists, and suitable cliff-hangers, before the end.

This is the third book in a series to feature Lexie Rogers, and because I’ve not yet read the first two, there were elements of the backstory that don’t (yet) fit neatly into place for me. This novel can be read as a standalone, but I think it would be best to read the series in order.

I enjoyed the novel, rapidly turning pages to see how it would all end. I’ve added the other novels in the series to my reading list.

Fatal Mistake is the third book in the Lexie Rogers series by Aussie author Karen M. Davis and what a fabulous read it was. With twists and turns this book really had me turning the pages very quickly. There was quite a lot going on throughout this book which I found a little difficult to follow at time, but in saying that I still really enjoyed it.

For anyone looking for a gritty and fast paced thriller series, I recommend you read this series. With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my digital copy to read and review.
