⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Coming at ya with another book review because I am finally having time to be a bit more active on here now that we are moved into our new house! (Yay!!)

The Rage of Dragons has been all over the place since it’s 2019 release, and for good reason. This novel is the first of The Burning series by Evan Winter, and it is a very compelling read. It is an African inspired, gladiator-esque story with dragons, a super unique magic system, and an unlikely protagonist. If any of that appeals to you, you are going to want to give this book a try.

While I found the world-building and Winters’ writing to be exceptional, I do think that this book suffered in the second act. The beginning of this story was gripping and the climax of the book had me on the edge of my seat, but the middle could have stood to be trimmed of some of the training sequences. I found myself wishing that the author had gone more of the “Rocky Training Montage” direction, because there were about 150 pages in there that were dragged down simply due to the monotony of the scenes. However, that is really my only complaint, and if you fee that this won’t be a problem for you, expect to really enjoy this book.

Overall, this book really delivered on my expectations. I am eager to see where Winters takes this series in the second book (due out in November), and have high hopes for him as an author in the years to come.

Amazing

I can’t begin to say how amazing this book is. I could not get enough. The violence was intense but in a weird good way that you couldn’t get enough of it. I can’t wait to read the second one.

Where they fight, the world burns!

Tao's quest for vengeance leads him down a path of great power, but personal turmoil. Sacrificing peace, sleep, and sanity for the sake of power. Through this Tao will learn secrets nobody is meant to learn, and the truth behind the war that has plagued his people for generations.

A lot of what happens in The Rage of Dragons is familiar: characters, plot points, and classic fantasy tropes. But Winter's Xhosa-inspired world makes them feel fresh. This book will open your mind to the possibilities of fantasy outside the tired medieval times and British aristocracy. A change in setting, fast-paced brutal combat, and fully fleshed-out world, make this book hard to put down. And there are dragons. I'm a sucker for dragons.

I am burning up to get to the sequel!
