Rich in historical facts, incredible stories, and very well written. Loved it. It should be on the curriculum!

This book is an account of a fascinating history of African hair and colonialism all told through the personal lens of Dabiris’ experience growing up in a backwards racist Ireland. The tone of the book ebbs and flows between academic speak and personal colloquial language. Dabiri failed to bring these two together seamlessly which made for an off putting reading experience. This, along with the messy, disjointed structure of the paragraphs brought down the rating of the book.Â

Reads more like a research paper than a book but is a fascinating study of history.
