Hard Luck by Sara Ney

Hard Luck is the perfect book to conclude the series, we all needed Mateo in our lives!

I must say I am not the biggest fan of surprise pregnancy in books, for me it always brings way too much drama (which I hate), but obviously my low drama queen, Sara Ney, managed to give us instead a super sweet story. The beginning is a bit slow, but the flashbacks truly make up for it. The love story is quite different from the other books, but I really enjoyed it.

Mateo is the perfect guy in my opinion, I am not really a fan of bad boys, so when we meet sweet and caring Mateo, I couldn't keep myself from falling in love. He is so sweet with True and his sisters, really my heart couldn’t deal with all this perfection. I must say that we don’t see him enough in the book in my opinion, he could have absolutely joined Rhett and Jackson in my book boyfriend list because he is that perfect, but I needed more! True is very… hormonal? But I still loved her as a character and her friendship with Molly was so cute.

So why isn’t it a 5 star read? You all know that Sara Ney has written some of my favourite romance books ever, but I am so mad at her right now. What was that end? Did I get the wrong version where there are 200 pages missing? You can’t make me fall in love to take it away so quickly! Truly the only problem I have with this series is that the books are way too short. Also, this is maybe the less “sporty” book in the series, which I don’t really mind, but well you should know it.

So if you want to join my new club “I want to have Mateo’s babies”, read Hard Luck and let’s talk about how amazing he is.

2.25 stars
I like this author and I am making my way through her backlist, but I have unfortunately read several books by her lately that do not seem like complete romances. This is another one.
First of all, I didn't like the author's choice to make the main characters so irresponsible. They had sex within hours of meeting and didn't use a condom. No discussion of birth control or STDs. Neither character was presented as reckless and irresponsible in general, so this decision was perplexing. It only served to make them both seem stupid and immature.
Second of all, no good reason was given for the FMC waiting so long to tell the MMC about the pregnancy. He was trying to contact her and she ignored him, which is ridiculously immature and rude. Her reasoning was senseless.
Third of all, there's no development of the romance. The MMC tells the reader in his inner monologue that he loves the FMC but he doesn't tell her yet. The FMC doesn't tell the reader or the MMC that she loves him or is even falling for him. They talk and have sex but it seems more like a friends a benefits situation than a romance. Like, "well, we are having a kid so we might as well have sex and learn to get along." It was just an odd decision for a romance novel.
The book ends with no clear direction for the relationship, with the FMC even telling the reader via inner monologue that she's sleeping in the same bed as the MMC instead of in a guest bedroom as if that's a big deal. Seemed like the book needed to be longer so the reader could see the development from that point to the FMC falling in love to the MMC declaring his love to maybe a proposal and/or wedding.
I'm giving this read 2.25 stars. It's a disappointment because the MMC was actually a really good character. He's sweet, respectful and incredibly supportive. He deserved a better story.

Wonderful fluff

That was excellent fluff. Just the perfect feel good read. The stakes are relatively low and it was just nice to kind of fumble along with the characters. Audiobook was excellent too!!

Usually I will rave about Sara Ney but not for this one. If you've read the other books in the series you had to have been waiting for True's story just as I was.

After reading this, I have to say I would have waited longer to get a better book.

My problem wasn't how quick the relationship was because some relationships happen quick. And my problem wasn't how long it took True to reveal to him she was pregnant, because hey I'm sorry sometimes your just scared. It happens.

My main problem was the freaking end. What the hell was that??? Where was the rest of the book? It just freaking ends.

Fine, we are told they are "dating", we know the sex of the baby, but is that the conclusion we all wanted? No! I wanted more. I wanted a HEA and a HEA this was not. It felt very unfinished. I felt like I was watching a TV show and the last set of commercials came on and I am waiting for the end of the show ... and the power goes out. Ugh.

I have been in a serious reading funk and this book pulled me straight out of it! From the very first words I was enthralled in this story! Everything I have come to know and love about this author!

I was looking forward to True’s story.

I loved that they both had crazy families. However, there are holes in this story. You don’t get anything from them talking to his parents. All of a sudden they all know each other and it’s all good. The book e did that way too.

I tore through Hard Luck and was so excited to get to know the Wallace sister True and was so intrigued with Mateo and loved that he turned out to be such an awesome guy. I found him so charming and loved all his sisters and their involvement in his life. I squealed when neighbor Molly appeared at the beginning and I absolutely loved her presence in this book! More Molly please! Hard Luck was over too fast for me- I am so hoping there is another book planned in the series so we can get more of True and Mateo's HEA.

I liked this, I was a teen mom so I could understand the hiding out and trying to figure out her life before telling people. Her brothers are hilarious, the ultrasound scene omg I would have killed someone, also the scene when 5 of his sisters ambush them and he is livid but couldn't do anything about it. Oh and the sneaking him in her room in the middle of the night was fantastic. But the strong family bonds in this was great.

I am so in love with Mateo and tru, I loved how they came together and how tru felt so conflicted about things, i was majorly swooning on how much love Mateo offered tru and how they grew with one another, i am going to miss buzz and Tripp because they are quite ridiculous and there competing is the funniest thing ever, and can we just say Mateo's sisters were soo dang funny, i cried laughing, i am definitely going to recommend this series and this book to everyone i know, I Cant wait to see what Sara Writes next all of her books are one clicks for me.
